  1. Smoke and flames indicate that your car is on fire. After safely stopping and switching off the engine, what should you do?

Correct answer: Get everyone out, move away from traffic and call 911.

People come before the vehicle or belongings. Evacuate promptly and summon firefighters from a safe place; do not return to the burning car.

  2. You suspect a fire under the hood after evacuating your vehicle. Should you open the hood to inspect it?

Correct answer: No; opening it can make the fire grow.

Keep away and let firefighters handle the fire. Do not approach the vehicle to expose a suspected engine-compartment fire.

  3. Electrical wires have fallen near a crash. You are outside and approaching on foot. What should you do?

Correct answer: Stay clear and report the wires to emergency services.

Treat downed wires as a serious hazard. Do not approach or touch them; tell responders so they can manage the scene safely.

  4. When reporting a serious crash, which information is most useful to the emergency dispatcher?

Correct answer: The precise location and hazards such as injuries, fire, fuel or downed wires.

A clear location helps responders reach the scene. Describe immediate hazards and follow the dispatcher's instructions instead of delaying the call to settle fault.

  5. You are not involved in a crash and responders are already helping. How should you pass the scene?

Correct answer: Watch for people and keep moving as traffic controls direct.

Unnecessary stopping can cause another crash and block emergency access. Focus on driving and comply with responders, signs and traffic conditions.

  6. Fuel has spilled near damaged vehicles. Which warning method should you avoid?

Correct answer: Lighting a flare near the spilled fuel.

Flames and smoking can ignite fuel. Scene warnings must not introduce a new fire hazard or require you to stand in moving traffic.

  7. You want to photograph crash damage, but doing so would require standing in an active traffic lane. What should you do?

Correct answer: Stay out of the lane and document only from a safe position.

Documentation is secondary to personal safety. Traffic may not see or avoid you, so do not enter an active lane merely to get a better photograph.
