Hospital service sign
What does it mean?
A white H on a blue sign identifies hospital service. Directional arrows or additional signs explain how to reach it; the symbol alone is not a lane assignment or a permission to ignore traffic controls.
What to do when you see it
- Read the accompanying arrow, exit or distance information.
- Plan a normal safe turn or exit if that is your destination.
- Continue obeying traffic signals and lane markings.
How to recognize it
- Large white capital H.
- Blue square with a white border.
On the road
You are driving to a hospital for an appointment and see H with a right-pointing arrow. Prepare for the indicated turn while still yielding and signaling normally.
Don’t confuse it with

Gas service sign
Both are blue service signs, but the fuel-pump symbol identifies fuel and H identifies a hospital.

Green destination guide sign
Green destination signs guide routes and places; this blue symbol identifies a specific service.
