  1. Before carrying a passenger on a trike, what preparation should you make for the added load?

Correct answer: Check the owner’s manual for tire-pressure and suspension settings and account for changed handling.

Passenger weight affects the vehicle’s response. Use the model’s loaded settings and allow for the different handling and braking rather than relying on unloaded habits.

  2. You are preparing to leave on a trike with a passenger. What should the passenger do before climbing aboard?

Correct answer: Tell you and wait until you are ready.

Agree on mounting and dismounting before departure. The operator needs to be ready for the passenger’s movement and weight.

  3. A passenger on a saddle-seat trike asks whether their feet can hang off the sides during the ride. What should you explain?

Correct answer: Keep both feet on the passenger footrests and secure loose clothing.

Passengers need a proper seating and footrest arrangement, protective gear and no loose items that could catch on the vehicle. Do not substitute an improvised foothold.

  4. Your group normally uses a staggered two-wheel motorcycle formation. A non-leaning trike is joining. Which plan follows the MSF three-wheel guidance?

Correct answer: Do not place the trike in the two-wheel staggered formation; preserve its lane space and following gap.

The MSF three-wheel guide does not recommend the staggered arrangement used by two-wheel groups. Allow room for the trike and increase following space as conditions require.

  5. Several trike riders approach a slower vehicle where passing may be legal. How should they pass?

Correct answer: Individually, with each rider making a separate safe passing decision.

A leader’s opportunity does not establish a safe gap for everyone behind. Each rider must assess the available space and traffic independently.

  6. A new trike rider has not yet learned basic throttle, shifting or braking control. What should come before independent skill exercises?

Correct answer: Suitable rider instruction to establish those basic skills.

The MSF exercises assume basic operating skills already exist. Seek qualified instruction first; reading a quiz is not a substitute for supervised training.

  7. An empty private parking lot looks suitable for trike practice. What should you obtain before using it?

Correct answer: Permission from the property owner.

An apparently unused lot still belongs to someone. Obtain the owner’s permission and choose an area suitable for the planned practice.

  8. Before starting a trike exercise in an approved practice area, what should you check?

Correct answer: The surface for oil, gravel and glass, and the surrounding area for traffic and people.

Inspect the vehicle and practice surface before starting, then keep checking around you. Permission to use the area does not make it free of hazards or other users.
