  1. At an intersection with an unmarked crosswalk and no operating traffic signal, a pedestrian is crossing in your lane. Does the absence of painted lines let you keep moving?

Correct answer: No; yield and stop for the pedestrian in your path.

The handbook requires yielding to pedestrians entering or in a crosswalk, including unmarked crosswalks. A missing painted line does not remove the duty to avoid the pedestrian.

  2. A narrow road and oncoming traffic leave no room for a safe bicycle pass. What should you do?

Correct answer: Slow and wait behind the cyclist until you can pass with adequate clearance.

Wait for safe space rather than squeezing through. A delayed pass is better than endangering the cyclist or oncoming traffic.

  3. A truck swings left to prepare for a right turn. What should you avoid?

Correct answer: Trying to squeeze between the truck and the right curb.

The truck may need a wider path, and its driver may not see a car alongside. Do not enter the space needed to finish the turn.

  4. A motorcycle is riding in the same direction as your car. The lane seems wide enough for both. May you pass it within that same lane?

Correct answer: No; allow the rider the full lane and use a safe lawful passing movement.

A motorcycle needs lane space to maneuver around hazards. Do not treat its smaller width as an invitation to share its lane.

  5. A car ahead has stopped at an unmarked intersection crosswalk to let a pedestrian cross. May you pass it in the adjacent lane?

Correct answer: Do not pass the stopped car; stop and check for a pedestrian hidden from view.

Do not overtake a vehicle stopped at a marked crosswalk or unmarked intersection crosswalk to let a pedestrian cross. It can hide the pedestrian from view.

  6. A work-zone flagger directs you to stop even though your lane looks open. What should you do?

Correct answer: Obey the flagger and wait for permission to proceed.

The handbook requires following work-zone traffic-control instructions. The flagger may know about hazards or opposing traffic you cannot see.

  7. Traffic beyond the railroad tracks is stopped with no space for your whole car. The crossing lights are not flashing. What should you do?

Correct answer: Wait before the tracks until there is room to cross completely.

A clear warning signal is not enough: there must also be space to clear the tracks. Do not enter a crossing where traffic would trap the vehicle.

  8. An oncoming school bus has flashing red loading lights across a median on a divided highway with two lanes in each direction. What rule applies to you?

Correct answer: Opposing traffic need not stop for the bus signal; traffic behind the bus must stop.

Opposing traffic on a separate roadway need not stop for that bus signal. The exception does not apply to vehicles approaching behind the bus on its roadway.

  9. An ambulance approaches with emergency warnings while you are traveling on an ordinary open two-way road. What should you do?

Correct answer: Move safely to the right side and stop until it passes.

Yield, move as close as possible to the right edge clear of an intersection, and stop until the emergency vehicle passes unless an officer directs otherwise.

  10. An emergency vehicle approaches while you are already in a roundabout. What does Wyoming's handbook recommend?

Correct answer: Continue to your exit, leave the roundabout, then pull over to the right.

Do not block the roundabout. Exit first, then pull right so the emergency vehicle can pass.

Source: Wyoming Driver License Manual 2021 (August 2021), printed/physical p 49 — Right of way involving emergency vehicles — roundabout. Reviewed September 29, 2026. ↗

  11. A police vehicle is parked beside a highway with warning lights operating. You have two lanes in your direction and the farther lane is safely available. What must you do absent other police direction?

Correct answer: Move to the lane farthest away or at least one lane apart.

For the described parked emergency vehicle, move over as soon as safe. Do not create another hazard while changing lanes.

    Source: Current Wyoming Statutes Title 31, physical PDF p 165 — §31-5-224(a)(i). Reviewed September 29, 2026. ↗

  12. On a two-lane road posted 65 mph, you approach a parked emergency vehicle using warning lights. With no officer directing otherwise, what speed does Wyoming's specific rule require?

Correct answer: 45 mph, or slower if conditions require.

On a two-lane road posted 45 mph or more, the specific rule calls for 20 mph below the posted limit. General safe-speed duties still apply.

    Source: Current Wyoming Statutes Title 31, physical PDF p 165 — §31-5-224(a)(ii). Reviewed September 29, 2026. ↗
