Arizona handbook and sources

Use the official manual alongside practice. Arizona rules can differ from those in another state, especially around turning, school buses and parking.

How we built this practice

Our 96 original road-rule questions use 37 sections of Arizona Revised Statutes Title 28, checked September 14, 2026. Our internal question records retain the relevant statute and subsection; feedback presents the explanation without a source link. Scenarios specify ordinary driving situations; legal exceptions may depend on vehicle type and circumstances.

The question set also includes 32 pictured-sign questions grounded in specific sections of the FHWA MUTCD, 11th Edition with Revision 1 (December 2025). Arizona publishes its traffic-standard references through ADOT. The sign artwork is reused from official FHWA panels; it is not competitor artwork. The current question set covers selected signs, signals, right-of-way, lane use, turns, passing, school buses, pedestrians, bicycles, speed, parking, railroads, lighting, restraints, distraction, impairment and collision duties.

Another 48 original safe-driving scenarios use ADOT and Arizona DPS guidance, plus NHTSA and FMCSA recommendations. Topics include dust-storm stopping, monsoon hazards, winter preparation, tire failures, fatigue, aggressive drivers, truck blind spots and railroad emergencies. Each internal question record identifies its supporting section. General safety advice is distinguished from Arizona law.

The 32 licensing scenarios cover learner supervision and phone restrictions, Class G curfew and passengers, practice-hour routes, minor applications and driver-record duties. Sources include six Arizona statutes and four ADOT guidance pages. The photograph questions use the 16-year update rule effective September 12, 2026, including MVD authority to require an earlier update.

A further 32 pavement-marking questions use specific FHWA sections for line patterns, lane arrows, yield and stop markings, curb interpretation and crosswalks. Twelve include official source illustrations. Two questions apply Arizona Revised Statutes 28-644 to gore areas; the remaining questions explain standard markings without claiming that every national revision has been separately adopted in Arizona.

Another 32 questions use 22 Arizona statutes for vehicle condition, mirrors, horn use, glazing, brake lamps, trailer brakes, load warnings, backing, opening doors and roadside debris. Boundary cases specify the vehicle, loading, lighting or roadway conditions that determine the answer.

The 32 driver-responsibility scenarios cover insurance evidence and exclusions, minor-crash clearance, injury reporting, police directions, under-21 alcohol rules, open containers, implied consent and driving privileges. Internal provenance identifies the applicable Arizona statute or ADOT section. These are driver-education questions, not advice on a particular insurance claim or legal case.

Another 32 road-skills questions use current Arizona statutes and ADOT guidance for roundabouts, freeway ramps, merging, HOV access, accessible parking and sharing the road. Four hill-parking questions use the California DMV handbook solely for general wheel, brake and transmission technique; they do not import California parking laws into Arizona. No artwork or question text is copied from that handbook.

Specialized licensing situations and other handbook topics are not yet fully represented here. Complete CDL preparation is not yet included.

Separate motorcycle practice adds 132 questions using Arizona statutes, NHTSA guidance and MSF rider-safety references. It links to the official motorcycle manual and current ADOT licensing guidance; it is not complete motorcycle preparation.

CDL general knowledge practice reuses 176 of our original shared commercial-safety questions on vehicle control, adverse conditions and cargo. Their references remain the Colorado DMV-linked CDL manual and federal rules, not unverified Arizona-manual page numbers. A separate 32-question licensing and training section cites Arizona statutes, ADOT and FMCSA. Eight specialist sections add 424 questions on air brakes, combination, doubles/triples, tank, passenger vehicles, school buses, hazardous materials and skills preparation. The 41 Arizona school-bus scenarios identify their statute, DPS reporting guidance, Pre-Trip Inspection checklist (November 2025), or DPS-linked Minimum Standards (Supp. 26-2, June 30, 2026). The 21 operating-rule scenarios were rechecked against R13-13-104(B)/(D) in that 2026 compilation and are included in practice and mistake review. Consult current DPS requirements and your approved training alongside these selected study topics. The skills question set explicitly identifies the modernized model; confirm your Arizona provider’s actual test format.
