Iowa speed limits by road type: sources and limits
7 original questions with explanations and saved review. Selected district and road-category speed limits, including the July 2026 general-default change. Different posted restrictions and conditions requiring a lower speed always remain relevant.
Read each question’s conditions carefully. Requirements can differ by age, license and vehicle use. How we built this practice.
How we built this practice
The complete published Iowa Code 2026 section 321.285 and enacted 2026 Acts chapter 1132 were read October 1. Iowa DOT’s 11E-1 implementation page, dated August 27, 2026, directly confirms the general default increased from 55 to 60 mph on July 1. The Code’s older general-default wording is not presented as current.
- Iowa Legislature — section 321.285, road-category limits
- Iowa Legislature — 2026 Acts chapter 1132, general-default amendment
- Iowa DOT — current speed-limit implementation plan
The actual Code, enacted amendment and current DOT implementation text were directly read, and these original questions independently reviewed October 1, 2026. No visual amendment-markup inspection is claimed. Other road categories retain their separate rules; lower posted limits may remain.
What is not covered
These scenarios establish the road category and exclude other applicable limits; they do not let a driver infer legal classification from appearance or ignore posted signs. Engineering design speed is not driving authority. Special farm, cattle-guard, minimum-capability and penalty rules are not scored.
Practice and saved mistakes
The full and shuffled views reuse the same 7 questions. Separate technical numbered sets and mixed practice selections stay unchanged. My mistakes adds this local topic to the same CAR history, without mixing other vehicles or states.
