Iowa car sources and partial coverage

What is included, how to use it, and where the underlying guidance comes from.

Practice road rules, driving skills and licensing topics. Choose car, motorcycle or CDL practice. Saved mistakes stay separate for each license. Read the handbook section for source dates and coverage.

How we built this practice

135 car questions: 107 original text-based decisions and 28 reused national sign-recognition questions. The separate two-wheel rider basics has 92 questions: 81 skills and 11 selected qualification decisions. CDL adds 100 questions across general knowledge and cargo, air brakes, combinations, double trailers, tanks, passengers, school buses, hazardous-materials safety and selected qualifications. Numbered tests, focused topics, fresh mixes and saved-mistake review reuse those same records. Each vehicle keeps separate progress. Separate local studies below add selected rules without changing the numbered basics sets.

The Iowa Driver’s Manual is the currently linked 68-page document whose back-page text identifies MM1170 07/23/2026. Its readable text supports this practice. Iowa PDF diagrams were not visually verified, so no question depends on interpreting them.

Selected current instruction-permit and intermediate-license requirements were checked September 29, 2026. The passenger restriction is conditional on the license; supervision categories are not reduced to one blanket adult age. The separate five-question full-license progression and hour-waiver set uses retained DOT guidance originally read September 29 and recovered October 1. Detailed special-minor trip rules remain outside this practice.

Current Iowa DOT hands-free guidance supplements the manual’s older texting wording. Novice-device restrictions are kept separate. Specific OWI penalties, property-damage-only reporting thresholds, special chemical-test procedures and diagram-dependent layouts are not tested. Selected speed limits and ordinary impairment/testing duties are available in the separate local studies.

The sign illustrations and their credits come from the FHWA MUTCD. Accepted national sign records retain their September 15 or September 28, 2026 source-review dates. They are not copied Iowa handbook art. Exact per-question source references remain in internal records.

The Iowa DOT-linked Motorcycle Operator Manual is labeled Archived in the agency catalog. Its text identifies Form 430008 PM802 05/14/2024 and the MSF 18th revision, June 2020. Actually read operating paragraphs support general two-wheel skills; the older manual is not used to infer current Iowa qualification or equipment law. Diagram-dependent and official sample questions are excluded.

The first 10 rider-qualification questions use Iowa DOT’s Motorcycle, Moped, or Autocycle and license types, restrictions and endorsements guidance, checked September 29, 2026. The additional under-18 course-completion question uses the DOT education page, originally read September 29 and recovered and reviewed October 1 without a fresh agency request. These records do not establish every current rider traffic rule, permit limitation or administrative exception. Confirm current requirements with Iowa DOT.

CDL technical scenarios are matched to readable paragraphs of the Iowa National CDL Manual, October 2023 hybrid edition: a 2017 testing-system core with modernized supplements. This older source is not represented as the current catalog edition. No question requires an unverified diagram, and official sample quizzes are not reproduced. These knowledge exercises do not certify pre-trip inspection or practical driving skills.

Eight selected qualification decisions use current Iowa DOT CDL application, learner permit and medical certification guidance checked October 1, 2026. Immigration eligibility, specialist exemptions, full endorsement eligibility, detailed hazardous-material classifications and current practical-test completeness are outside this practice. Confirm current requirements with Iowa DOT.

Practice is untimed, generally in sets of 20 or fewer, with an editorial 80% learning target. No official Iowa exam length, passing score or timer is claimed. A practice score does not predict a licensing result. Use the full manual and qualified instruction, and confirm current agency requirements before applying.

More about these sources

Independent practice, not official Iowa test questions or complete Iowa coverage. Common sign illustrations are national, not Iowa-specific diagrams. The car manual text was readable, but its diagrams were not visually verified; diagram-dependent questions are excluded. Quizzes do not replace the complete manuals, current agency instructions or hands-on training.
