Louisiana · 20-question sample · Mark one correct answer for each question.

  1. 1. A — Wait for the crossing vehicle to clear.

A green light permits movement only when the path is clear. It does not cancel the duty to yield to road users already in the intersection.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Green light and occupied intersection; printed page 33, physical PDF page 38; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 38

  2. 2. C — You must yield before crossing its path.

An ordinary green light is not a protected left-turn arrow. Oncoming vehicles and crossing pedestrians still have priority over your left turn.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Left turn on steady green; printed page 33, physical PDF page 38; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 38

  3. 3. B — Yield to the pedestrian before turning.

The arrow authorizes a direction, not a collision. Check that the intersection is clear of other road users before following it.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Green arrow; printed page 33, physical PDF page 38; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 38

  4. 4. D — Slow down and stop before the line.

Yellow warns that red is next. Stop when you can do so safely before the stopping position; do not accelerate to race the change.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Steady yellow signal; printed page 33, physical PDF page 38; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 38

  5. 5. B — Slow down, check for conflicts and continue cautiously.

A flashing yellow signal warns of a hazard. It calls for caution and a careful traffic check rather than an automatic stop on every approach.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Flashing yellow signal; printed page 33, physical PDF page 38; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 38

  6. 6. B — Traffic moving in opposite directions.

Yellow centerlines divide opposing traffic. White lane lines normally separate vehicles traveling in the same direction.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Yellow centerlines; printed page 34, physical PDF page 39; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 39

  7. 7. D — Only when the maneuver is otherwise legal and safe.

A broken line permits passing where other restrictions and conditions allow. It does not remove the need for adequate sight distance and a safe gap.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Broken yellow centerline; printed page 34, physical PDF page 39; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 39

  8. 8. C — No; they prohibit passing across the centerline.

Do not confuse a permitted turn across centerlines with permission to pass. Double solid yellow centerlines prohibit the overtaking maneuver described.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Double solid yellow centerline; printed page 34, physical PDF page 39; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 39

  9. 9. A — A lane change when you have checked and can move safely.

Dashed white lines allow safe lane changes. Check mirrors and the blind spot, signal, and leave adequate space.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Dashed white lane line; printed page 35, physical PDF page 40; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 40

  10. 10. C — The movement is hazardous and requires great care.

The guide distinguishes a single solid white line from double solid white lines. A single solid white line warns that crossing it is hazardous.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Single solid white lane line; printed page 35, physical PDF page 40; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 40

  11. 11. C — Drop back to increase the following interval.

Count from when the car ahead passes a fixed object until you pass it. Less than three seconds indicates too little space under this basic guide rule.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Three-second following rule; printed page 65, physical PDF page 70; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 70

  12. 12. A — Increase it beyond the normal dry-road interval.

Poor conditions increase the time and distance needed to respond. Leave more room and reduce speed rather than treating a dry-road interval as sufficient.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Following in poor conditions; printed page 66, physical PDF page 71; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 71

  13. 13. D — The distance traveled while recognizing and reacting to the hazard.

The vehicle keeps moving before the brakes take effect. Perception and reaction distances are added to braking distance.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Total stopping distance; printed page 65, physical PDF page 70; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 70

  14. 14. B — Reduce speed to one appropriate for the conditions.

A posted maximum assumes favorable conditions. Louisiana's general speed rule also requires a reasonable speed for the road, traffic, light and weather.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Speed for conditions; printed page 87, physical PDF page 92; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 92

  15. 15. D — The truck needs that space to stop safely.

Large trucks generally require more stopping room. Taking away their space cushion can create a rear-end collision if you then slow or stop.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Truck stopping space; printed page 83, physical PDF page 88; reviewed September 22, 2026. · page 88

  16. 16. D — Instruction or a skills test while accompanied by a driver education instructor.

A TIP has a limited training and testing purpose. It is not the same credential as a learner's permit for supervised practice.

Source: Louisiana OMV; Class E TIP: permitted driving; official page read September 22, 2026.

  17. 17. B — 14.

OMV lists age 14 as the TIP minimum. Receiving a TIP does not itself authorize ordinary learner-permit or solo driving.

Source: Louisiana OMV; Class E TIP: minimum age; official page read September 22, 2026.

  18. 18. A — 15.

A TIP may be available earlier, but OMV sets the learner's-permit minimum at 15 and also requires the applicable testing and TIP steps.

Source: Louisiana OMV; Learner's Permit: minimum age; official page read September 22, 2026.

  19. 19. C — A licensed sibling at least 18 years old.

OMV permits supervision by a licensed parent or guardian, a licensed adult at least 21, or a licensed sibling at least 18. The sibling exception does not apply to every teenage friend.

Source: Louisiana OMV; Graduated Licensing Program: supervision; official page read September 22, 2026.

  20. 20. A — No; the driver must also reach 16.

For someone starting at 15, OMV requires at least 180 days with the learner's permit AND reaching age 16. Other licensing requirements must also be met.

Source: Louisiana OMV; Graduated Licensing Program: Age 15; official page read September 22, 2026.
