Keep Right sign

What does it mean?

KEEP RIGHT tells you to pass on the right side of the island, divider or obstruction shown by the symbol. Its curved arrow describes the path around that feature, not a turn onto another street.

What to do when you see it

  1. Identify the obstruction and keep to its right.
  2. Stay within the marked travel path.
  3. Reduce speed if the available space or visibility requires it.

How to recognize it

  • Black arrow curving around a solid black obstacle.
  • Arrow continues upward after passing on the right.
  • White upright rectangle.

On the road

A raised median begins in the middle of the road and carries this symbol. Follow the lane around the median's right side rather than steering left of it.

Don’t confuse it with

Black-and-white ONE WAY arrow pointing right.

One Way sign

ONE WAY establishes the permitted direction along a road; KEEP RIGHT identifies the side of an obstruction to use.
