What does it mean?

Road construction, maintenance, or related restrictions are ahead. This example says ROAD WORK 1000 FT, so the displayed distance applies to this sign rather than to every work zone.

What to do when you see it

  1. Watch for additional signs that identify lane shifts, closures, or traffic control.
  2. Adjust speed to the posted limit and actual conditions.
  3. Leave room for workers, equipment, and vehicles slowing ahead.
