Work zones

Flagger ahead

What does it mean?

A person is controlling traffic farther ahead, usually where work changes the normal traffic flow. The orange warning prepares you to receive that person's directions; it is not itself the place to stop.

What to do when you see it

  1. Reduce speed and watch for a stopped queue before reaching the work area.
  2. Follow the flagger's STOP, SLOW, and proceed directions.
  3. Leave space from the vehicle ahead and pass the work area carefully when directed.

How to recognize it

  • Orange diamond with a black standing figure.
  • The figure holds a flag extending to one side.
