Through Only sign
What does it mean?
The straight arrow and ONLY require traffic in the controlled lane to proceed straight through the intersection. This lane instruction does not replace traffic signals or give permission to enter a blocked intersection.
What to do when you see it
- Use this lane for the through movement.
- Move to a suitable lane early if you need to turn, where a safe lane change is allowed.
- Wait for the applicable signal or right-of-way condition before proceeding.
How to recognize it
- Single black arrow pointing straight upward.
- ONLY below the arrow.
- White upright rectangle.
On the road
The lane beside you is queuing to turn left while your sign shows a straight arrow and ONLY. Stay in your lane and continue straight when the intersection control permits.
Don’t confuse it with

Straight or Left Turn sign
A branched arrow offers both straight and left movements; Through Only offers the straight movement.
One Way sign
ONE WAY controls the direction along a street, not the permitted movement from one approach lane.
