Road warnings

Yield ahead

What does it mean?

A YIELD sign is ahead. Prepare to give way at the upcoming control; you may need to stop if slowing alone does not provide a safe gap.

What to do when you see it

  1. Reduce speed enough to assess crossing or circulating traffic.
  2. Look for the actual YIELD sign and yield line.
  3. Proceed only after giving way to road users with priority.

How to recognize it

  • Yellow diamond with a black upward arrow.
  • A small red-and-white downward triangle appears below the arrow.

On the road

You approach a junction where the yield sign is partly hidden by the curve. You slow early, check the through traffic, and stop if no safe gap is available.

Don’t confuse it with

Yellow diamond with an upward arrow above a red octagon.

Stop ahead

Stop Ahead contains a red octagon and warns of a mandatory stop control.
