  • Manual publishes 40 questions and up to six misses. 34 correct is derived from those counts; a separate passing percentage is not published in the reviewed source.
  • Age 15 is the knowledge-exam minimum in the retrieved handbook; driver-training permits can begin earlier at 14.5.
  • The currently linked 2026/04 manual failed to load. The accessible official 2025/10 handbook confirms these counts; treat current-edition confirmation as pending.
  • No explicit early-stop instruction found; 'before failing' wording alone is not proof that the screen terminates immediately.

  1. A young Idaho resident wants to begin an approved driver-training program. What is the minimum age described for the driver-training permit?

Correct answer: 14 years and six months.

The driver-training permit is available beginning at 14 1/2. It is not an unrestricted license; during training it authorizes driving with the instructor.

  2. A 19-year-old is practicing with an ordinary Class D instruction permit. Which person meets the stated minimum accompanying-driver age and license requirements?

Correct answer: An adult at least 18 who holds a valid driver license.

The ordinary age-17-and-older instruction permit requires an accompanying licensed adult age 18 or older. The under-17 supervised instruction program has a different supervisor requirement.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 16 — Class D Instruction Permits ↗

  3. For how long does the current handbook say an ordinary Class D instruction permit allows supervised practice?

    Correct answer: One year.

The July 2026 handbook specifies one year. The learner must continue to meet the supervision requirement; permit validity is not permission for solo driving.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 16 — Class D Instruction Permits ↗

  4. A 15-year-old has finished driver training and is in the supervised instruction period. Who must sit beside the learner in front?

Correct answer: A validly licensed driver at least 21, with no other front-seat passenger.

The under-17 supervised instruction program requires a licensed supervisor age 21 or older in the front seat beside the driver. No other passenger may occupy the front seat.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 19 — Graduated Driver's License Program — supervision ↗

  5. A teen finishes 50 supervised hours, including ten at night, in three months. What still prevents completion of the ordinary supervised instruction requirement?

Correct answer: The minimum six-month violation-free period has not elapsed.

The program requires both at least six violation-free months and at least 50 supervised hours, including ten at night. Finishing the hours early does not shorten the period.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 19 — Graduated Driver's License Program — period and hours ↗

  6. A learner is convicted of a traffic-law violation during the supervised instruction period. What does the handbook say happens?

Correct answer: The permit is canceled; after reapplying, a new minimum six-month period begins.

A conviction during supervised instruction causes permit cancellation and restarts the minimum six-month period when a new permit is issued.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 19 — Graduated Driver's License Program — violation ↗

  7. A licensed 15-year-old wants to drive at midnight. What is required under the under-16 restriction?

Correct answer: A validly licensed driver at least 21 must sit in the front seat beside the driver.

A licensed driver under 16 is restricted to daylight travel unless accompanied by the qualified licensed adult beside them. A short trip does not remove the restriction.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 16 — Restriction When Under 16 ↗

  8. During the first six months after a license is issued to a 16-year-old, how many unrelated passengers under 17 may ordinarily ride with that driver?

Correct answer: No more than one.

The limit is one passenger under 17, except for passengers related to the driver by blood, adoption or marriage. It applies during the first six months of licensing while under 17.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 16 — Restriction When Under 17 ↗

  9. A 17-year-old applicant is not married. What additional consent is ordinarily needed to obtain an Idaho license?

Correct answer: Consent from a parent or legal guardian serving as the liability signer.

An applicant under 18 needs the required liability signer. Driver training does not replace that consent.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 26 — Liability Signer ↗

  10. An applicant under 18 has completed driver training but is still attending high school. What school-related proof is required?

Correct answer: Acceptable proof of school enrollment and attendance, or qualifying completion.

Idaho requires acceptable verification of enrollment and attendance or graduation/equivalent completion for applicants under 18.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 26 — Verification of School Compliance ↗

  11. You move to a new home in Idaho. When must you notify ITD of your address change?

    Correct answer: Within 30 days.

Notify ITD within 30 days. Updating the record and ordering a replacement card displaying the new address are separate actions.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 29 — Address Change ↗

  12. Your license has a corrective-lens restriction. May you leave your glasses off for a short daytime drive?

Correct answer: No; wear the required glasses or contacts whenever driving.

The lens restriction applies whenever you operate a motor vehicle. Distance, daylight and familiarity do not cancel it.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 32 — Medical/Visual Screening ↗

  13. Your road-test car has an unsafe tire and a critical warning light. What should you expect?

Correct answer: The test must be rescheduled with a roadworthy vehicle or after repairs.

A test vehicle must meet safety standards. Current paperwork is not a substitute for a safe, properly equipped vehicle.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 36 — Skills Test Examiner Vehicle Inspection ↗

  14. Which insurance evidence does the handbook require in the vehicle for the Class D skills test?

Correct answer: A current paper or digital proof-of-insurance copy.

The handbook accepts current paper or digital proof of insurance and expressly says an SR-22 is not valid proof for this test requirement.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 35 — Required Documents — Vehicle Insurance ↗

  15. You passed the skills test and received the sealed result envelope, but no license has been issued. May you now drive alone solely because you passed?

Correct answer: No; results must be recorded and a driver license issued before licensed privileges begin.

Passing the test does not itself issue a license. Keep the results sealed and complete the licensing process; any existing permit restrictions still matter.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 37 — Results ↗

  16. Which minimum liability limits apply to an Idaho personal-use auto policy: one injured person / all injured people in one crash / property damage?

    Correct answer: $25,000 / $50,000 / $15,000.

The Insurance Department states these minimum bodily-injury and property-damage limits. Higher coverage may be purchased; liability coverage addresses harm to others for which you are responsible.

Source: Idaho Department of Insurance, Required Auto Coverage — bodily injury and property damage liability minimums; read September 29, 2026 ↗

  17. Idaho no longer requires annual DMV plate stickers after July 1, 2026. What must the owner of an ordinary passenger car still do?

Correct answer: Renew the vehicle registration on schedule.

The sticker change does not end vehicle registration. Keep registration current even though no new annual DMV sticker is issued.

Source: ITD, June 30, 2026 — July 1 registration sticker change; registration still required ↗

  18. A crash causes no injury but more than $1,500 in property damage. What does the handbook require?

Correct answer: Report the crash to police.

The handbook requires a police report for injury crashes or property damage exceeding $1,500. Fault or whether a car can still be driven does not remove the duty.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 121 — Crashes and the Law — reporting ↗

  19. After a non-injury crash on an interstate, your car is operable and blocking a travel lane. What should you do if it can be moved safely?

Correct answer: Move it to a shoulder, median or emergency lane.

Idaho's Quick Clearance rule requires safely moving vehicles after a crash without death or injury on an interstate or major divided highway. Clearing the lane does not excuse other crash duties.

    Source: Idaho Driver's Handbook, July 2026; printed/PDF p. 121 — Crashes and the Law — Quick Clearance ↗

  20. An injured occupant is in a damaged vehicle, there is no immediate danger, and you lack medical training. What should you do?

Correct answer: Call for emergency help and avoid moving the injured person unnecessarily.

Provide help you can safely give and summon police and medical assistance. Do not move an injured person without appropriate training unless an immediate danger, such as fire, requires it.

What is the earliest learner-permit age in Idaho?

Idaho's Driver Training/Supervised Instruction Permit is available from age 14 and a half. This is the training route used by younger beginners. Applicants age 17 or older may use either that permit or a Class D instruction permit for driver training; the Class D permit requires a knowledge test.

How does Idaho's driver-training permit become a supervised permit?

During the driver education class, the instructor keeps the Driver Training Permit, and the student may drive only with an instructor. After the student passes the course, the instructor returns it to the student or parent, and it becomes the Supervised Instruction Permit for the next practice stage.

How much supervised practice does Idaho require for a new driver under 17?

Idaho's under-17 licensing path requires at least six calendar months of supervised driving after driver education, with 50 practice hours including 10 at night. The supervising driver must be licensed, at least 21, and seated beside the permit holder; other passengers cannot occupy the front seat.
