CDL medical categories and interstate age: sources and limits
8 original questions with explanations and saved review. Study medical categories, continuing qualification, interstate age, covered intrastate examinations and waiver limits. One scenario follows submitted examination results through the electronic NRII system to the state CDL record. Exception scenarios apply only under their stated conditions.
Read each question’s conditions carefully. Requirements can differ by age, license and vehicle use. How we built this practice.
How we built this practice
The federal 49 CFR 383.71 body was acquired September 21–22, 2026, when the eCFR displayed Title 49 currency through September 17. Its complete relevant categories and medical paragraphs were recovered and reviewed October 1, not freshly fetched that day. New Hampshire Saf-C 1803.05 and its exceptions/history were read October 1; the displayed rule was effective October 18, 2024. Its listed expiration does not establish that no later amendment exists.
- eCFR — 49 CFR 383.71, application and certification
- New Hampshire administrative rules — Saf-C 1800
- New Hampshire RSA 266:72-a — covered intrastate examinations and exemptions
- New Hampshire Saf-C 909 — intrastate medical-waiver operating limits
- FMCSA — electronic medical-result routing (Background III)
- AAMVA — New Hampshire NRII implementation
The original five questions retain their October 1 review and earlier federal acquisition dates. The two intrastate additions use RSA 266:72-a III with exemptions and Saf-C 909.16(a)(2) with applicability and histories, directly read October 4, 2026. The displayed section history ends July 24, 2020 and the relevant rules were effective July 17, 2023; this is not a complete later-amendment audit. The electronic-routing addition uses the April 14, 2026 FMCSA notice’s Background III and AAMVA’s completed New Hampshire implementation announcement, both read October 9. Temporary paper-proof exemptions are not tested; state-specific intake and record-correction procedures remain unresolved.
What is not covered
This is not a complete qualification checklist or medical-reporting guide. New Hampshire paper-delivery channels, missing-record correction, processing times, temporary proof, examination intervals, Registry-examiner selection, untested exemptions and special eligibility programs remain outside this study.
Practice and saved mistakes
The full and shuffled views reuse the same 8 questions. Separate technical numbered sets and mixed practice selections stay unchanged. My mistakes adds this local topic to the same CDL history, without mixing other vehicles or states.
