  1. You are applying for a CDL for interstate work that is subject to the federal driver-qualification requirements and requires a medical examiner’s certificate. Which self-certification category matches that work?

    Correct answer: Non-excepted interstate.

Non-excepted interstate applies when the interstate work is subject to Part 391 and requires medical certification. Self-certification identifies the applicable category; it does not replace the required medical examination and certification.

Source: §383.71(b)(1)(i), reader lines 123–124; required examination §383.71(h)(1)(ii), line 213; full category paragraph 123–128 and full medical paragraph/history 209–223 retained. eCFR, 49 CFR 383.71. Actual federal HTML acquired September 21–22, 2026 (turn3107view2, turn3377view1, turn3378view0); original Title 49 display up to date September 17, 2026. Actual retained body recovered and content reviewed October 1, 2026, not a fresh October 1 eCFR currency check. Federal category/examination guidance, not a finding about New Hampshire intrastate medical duties or current NRII delivery. HTML reader lines, not PDF pages. ↗

  2. Your planned interstate commercial work consists exclusively of operations covered by the federal exceptions from the medical-certificate requirement. Which self-certification category matches that work?

    Correct answer: Excepted interstate.

Excepted interstate depends on engaging exclusively in qualifying excepted operations. It is not a category a driver may choose simply to avoid an examination, and it does not mean that every possible state or medical obligation disappears.

Source: §383.71(b)(1)(ii), reader line 125, including its listed federal exception references; complete §383.71(b)(1)(i)–(iv), lines 123–128, retained. The scenario establishes the qualifying exception rather than classifying an unverified occupation. eCFR, 49 CFR 383.71. Actual federal HTML acquired September 21–22, 2026 (turn3107view2, turn3377view1, turn3378view0); original Title 49 display up to date September 17, 2026. Actual retained body recovered and content reviewed October 1, 2026, not a fresh October 1 eCFR currency check. Federal category/examination guidance, not a finding about New Hampshire intrastate medical duties or current NRII delivery. HTML reader lines, not PDF pages. ↗

  3. You will operate only in intrastate commerce, and all of your work falls within exceptions to the state’s driver-qualification requirements. Which self-certification category fits these conditions?

    Correct answer: Excepted intrastate.

Excepted intrastate applies to exclusively qualifying state-excepted operations. Intrastate work that remains subject to state driver-qualification requirements belongs in the non-excepted intrastate category. Staying within one state does not by itself establish an exception or remove every medical duty.

Source: §383.71(b)(1)(iii)–(iv), reader lines 126–128; complete category paragraph 123–128 retained. Conditional state-excepted operation only; no particular New Hampshire exemption or intrastate medical duty inferred. eCFR, 49 CFR 383.71. Actual federal HTML acquired September 21–22, 2026 (turn3107view2, turn3377view1, turn3378view0); original Title 49 display up to date September 17, 2026. Actual retained body recovered and content reviewed October 1, 2026, not a fresh October 1 eCFR currency check. Federal category/examination guidance, not a finding about New Hampshire intrastate medical duties or current NRII delivery. HTML reader lines, not PDF pages. ↗

  4. You already hold a CDL and will continue non-excepted interstate driving. What must you do to maintain your medical certification status?

Correct answer: Continue the required medical examinations and certification of physical qualification.

A CDL does not end the ongoing medical obligation. A driver continuing non-excepted interstate work must continue to be medically examined and certified as physically qualified. License validity and a personal statement of fitness do not replace that requirement.

Source: §383.71(h)(3)(ii), reader lines 219–220, within complete §383.71(h) and history, lines 209–223. Selected continuing examination/certification duty only; no delivery method, examination interval, Registry-examiner selection or processing claim. eCFR, 49 CFR 383.71. Actual federal HTML acquired September 21–22, 2026 (turn3107view2, turn3377view1, turn3378view0); original Title 49 display up to date September 17, 2026. Actual retained body recovered and content reviewed October 1, 2026, not a fresh October 1 eCFR currency check. Federal category/examination guidance, not a finding about New Hampshire intrastate medical duties or current NRII delivery. HTML reader lines, not PDF pages. ↗

  5. A 19-year-old New Hampshire CDL holder wants to begin ordinary interstate commercial driving, outside any special-program or emergency exception. What minimum age does New Hampshire’s rule require for that work?

    Correct answer: 21 years old.

The ordinary interstate minimum is 21. Eligibility for an ordinary CDL at 18 does not grant interstate operating privileges at that age. This scenario excludes special exceptions and does not state a universal hazardous-materials age rule.

Source: Saf-C 1803.05(b), reader line 576, with ordinary issuance (a), line 575, and complete exceptions (c)–(e), lines 580–590; full history 594–599. New Hampshire administrative rules, Saf-C 1800. Complete Saf-C 1803.05(a)–(e) and history actually read October 1, 2026 (turn5836view1), reader lines 571–599. Latest displayed rule source #14100 effective October 18, 2024, expires October 18, 2034; expiration is not a guarantee of no intervening amendment. Selected ordinary age rule, not a complete eligibility guide. HTML reader lines, not PDF pages. ↗

  6. You hold a New Hampshire CDL and take a private-company job driving a commercial vehicle subject to the state's motor-carrier rules. All work is intrastate, and no exemption or medical waiver applies. Does keeping every trip within New Hampshire remove the medical-examination requirement?

Correct answer: No. New Hampshire applies the medical-examination requirements to this covered intrastate work.

New Hampshire subjects drivers of vehicles covered by its motor-carrier rules, including those operating exclusively intrastate, to the medical examinations specified in the incorporated federal rules. Holding a CDL or staying in the state does not remove this duty. The scenario excludes statutory exemptions and an individually granted medical waiver; it does not describe how examination results are submitted to DMV.

Source: RSA 266:72-a III, with I-II, III-a and VI; complete section and history actually read October 4, 2026, HTML reader lines 1058-1083. III expressly applies examinations in 49 CFR 391.31-391.49 to covered intrastate drivers. III-a excludes state/political-subdivision transportation; VI separately defines qualifying farm/agricultural-plate exemptions. Latest displayed section amendment July 24, 2020; the fetched chapter also displays unrelated 2026 enactments, not a guarantee of exhaustive later-amendment reconciliation. Saf-C 901.01-901.03/902.02 additionally read, source #13684 effective July 17, 2023. No current NRII delivery, medical interval or complete exception-catalogue claim. ↗

  7. You have a New Hampshire intrastate medical waiver that permits a specified commercial vehicle type. Your employer asks you to drive a different type not covered by that waiver. Your CDL otherwise covers it. What should you do?

Correct answer: Do not take that assignment under the existing waiver; its listed vehicle types and conditions still control.

A New Hampshire intrastate medical waiver authorizes only the commercial vehicle types listed in it, subject to all its conditions and limitations. An otherwise suitable CDL, employer permission or an accompanying driver does not expand that waiver. This is the ordinary intrastate waiver program, not the separate home-to-school or school-to-home bus setting.

    Source: Saf-C 909.16(a)(2), HTML reader line 696; full duties (a)-(d) and history, lines 678-713, actually read October 4, 2026. Applicability/exclusion Saf-C 909.01(a)-(b), lines 398-407; authorization Saf-C 909.02, lines 408-409. Relevant rules show source #13684 effective July 17, 2023. RSA 266:72-a III authority and exceptions also read. No renewal-period, medical-standard, certificate-submission or interstate-waiver claim. ↗

  8. You hold a New Hampshire CDL for non-excepted interstate driving. Your examiner has submitted your examination results to the National Registry. Under NRII, how do they normally reach your state CDL record?

Correct answer: FMCSA sends the results electronically to the licensing agency, which posts them.

FMCSA transmits the Registry results to the state licensing agency for posting on the CDLIS driver record. This does not promise immediate processing or specify how New Hampshire corrects a missing record.

Source: FMCSA FR Doc. 2026-07173 (April 14, 2026), III.Background, physical p.3, lines 57-73; complete instrument read October 9, 2026. Ongoing electronic route only, not temporary-paper relief. NH implementation corroborated by AAMVA: https://www.aamva.org/publications-news/aamva-news/new-hampshire-joins-s2s-dhr-and-implements-nrii-solution (substantive body read October 9). No paper-intake, processing-time, intrastate or temporary-proof claim. ↗
