Road warnings

Added lane

What does it mean?

Another roadway joins and becomes a separate additional lane. Drivers on the joining road do not have to merge immediately at this joining point, but ordinary lane-change rules still apply afterward.

What to do when you see it

  1. Follow the lane markings as the new lane begins.
  2. Stay alert for drivers who may change lanes after joining.
  3. Check mirrors, signal, and check your blind spot before any later lane change.

How to recognize it

  • Yellow diamond with two upward arrows.
  • The right arrow curves in but continues separately beside a dashed line.

On the road

A ramp enters the highway and its lane continues alongside yours. You hold your lane through the joining point and check for traffic before making any later lane change.

Don’t confuse it with

Yellow diamond with a straight left line and a right line tapering left.

Lane ends

Lane Ends takes a lane away; Added Lane provides another continuing lane.
