Chevron alignment
What does it mean?
Chevrons show the direction of a turn or curve and add guidance along its outside edge. This example points left; chevrons can point the other way when the roadway bends right.
What to do when you see it
- Follow the indicated road alignment within your lane.
- Enter the curve at an appropriate speed.
- Continue watching the roadway rather than steering directly toward an individual sign.
How to recognize it
- Upright yellow rectangle.
- A broad black chevron points in the direction of the curve.
On the road
Several left-pointing chevrons line the outside of a bend at night. They help you see the road's direction while your lane markings guide your vehicle's path.
Don’t confuse it with

Curve left
The diamond Curve sign provides advance warning; chevrons give added guidance at the turn or curve.

Sharp turn left
The Turn warning is a diamond with a bent arrow, not a rectangular chevron.
