Road warnings

Divided Highway Ends Sign

What does it mean?

The physical separation between opposing traffic is ending ahead. Traffic approaching from the other direction will share the undivided roadway, so the space beyond the former median is not an extra lane for your direction.

What to do when you see it

  1. Watch the centerline and remain on the correct side of the road.
  2. Expect oncoming vehicles beyond the end of the divider.
  3. Adjust speed and lane position smoothly for the new layout.

How to recognize it

  • Yellow diamond with two arrows pointing in opposite directions.
  • The black divider is at the bottom of the symbol.

On the road

A rural divided highway approaches an older two-lane bridge. You follow the centerline after the median ends and expect opposing vehicles on the other side.

Don’t confuse it with

Yellow diamond with a straight left line and a right line tapering left.

Lane ends

Lane Ends warns of a reduction in lanes traveling your direction, rather than the end of a median.
