Narrow bridge
What does it mean?
The bridge ahead provides less side-to-side clearance than you may expect from the approach. Travel lanes or shoulders can be narrower there, so judge the available space before entering.
What to do when you see it
- Approach at a speed appropriate for the restricted width.
- Watch for oncoming traffic and road users near the edge.
- Follow any lane markings, signs, or temporary controls on the bridge.
How to recognize it
- Yellow diamond.
- Black NARROW BRIDGE lettering.
On the road
The shoulders disappear as your road reaches a short bridge. You reduce speed and allow for the narrower space instead of assuming the approach width continues.
Don’t confuse it with

One lane bridge
One Lane Bridge warns that there is only a single lane across the bridge, a more specific limitation.

Low clearance
Low Clearance concerns vehicle height beneath an obstruction, not bridge width.
