Winding road
What does it mean?
Several curves are close together ahead. A distance plaque may tell you how far the winding section continues, so clearing the first curve does not mean the winding road is over.
What to do when you see it
- Choose a speed that lets you follow the changing alignment safely.
- Look through each curve while remaining in your lane.
- Read any distance or advisory-speed plaque before continuing.
How to recognize it
- Yellow diamond with one winding black arrow.
- The single arrow changes direction more than once.
On the road
The sign appears before a wooded stretch with repeated bends. You keep a controlled pace through the sequence rather than accelerating hard after the first curve.
Don’t confuse it with

Slippery when wet
Slippery When Wet shows a car above two wavy tracks, not one winding arrow.

Curve left
Curve Left warns of one curve; Winding Road warns of a series.
