  1. The signal for your left-turn lane is a steady red arrow. What should you do?

Correct answer: Remain stopped instead of turning in that direction.

The Arkansas guide prohibits the movement indicated by a red arrow. Do not substitute the flashing-yellow-arrow rule for this signal.

  2. You have a flashing yellow left arrow and an oncoming vehicle is close enough to conflict with your turn. What should you do?

Correct answer: Yield and wait for a safe opening.

A flashing yellow arrow permits a cautious left turn after yielding. It does not stop opposing traffic or remove the need to check for pedestrians.

  3. A green arrow permits your turn, but a pedestrian is still in your turning path. What should you do?

Correct answer: Wait for the path to clear, then make the permitted turn.

Use a green arrow only when the movement is safe. A permitted turn does not justify striking someone already in the path.

  4. You stop at a circular red signal beside a NO TURN ON RED sign. The road looks empty. May you turn right now?

Correct answer: No. The sign prohibits that turn while the signal is red.

A sign prohibiting right turns on red removes that option. A complete stop and an empty roadway do not cancel the sign.

  5. No sign prohibits a right turn on a circular red light. After stopping, you see a pedestrian crossing the road you would enter. What should you do?

Correct answer: Yield to the pedestrian and wait until the turn is safe.

A permitted right turn on red still requires a full stop and a clear path. Check both traffic and the crosswalk before turning.

  6. You realize you passed your exit on a high-speed roadway. What is the safe response?

Correct answer: Continue forward to a safe, lawful turnaround or alternative route.

Missing an exit does not justify reversing in or alongside fast-moving traffic. Continue forward and correct the route at a safe location.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); General Driving: missed exit; printed page 32, physical PDF page 44. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  7. A car ahead is moving slowly and the paved shoulder appears clear. Should you use the shoulder to pass it?

Correct answer: No. Wait for a lawful passing opportunity.

The shoulder is not a passing lane. Another vehicle may enter it for an emergency without expecting an overtaking car there.

  8. No signs or lane markings direct a different path for your right turn. How should you position the turn?

Correct answer: Use the lane nearest the right side without swinging into opposing traffic.

A wide, unexpected swing can invite a passing conflict or put you into opposing traffic. Follow lane controls where they are provided.

  9. What danger comes from cutting the corner sharply during a left turn?

Correct answer: Entering the path of traffic approaching from the left.

A left turn should follow the proper lane path rather than cutting through another vehicle's space. Leave room for other turning traffic.

  10. On a multilane road, a driver stays very close behind you. The lane to your right is clear. What is a sensible response?

Correct answer: Move right when safe and let the driver pass.

Letting a tailgater pass reduces the conflict. Make a normal checked and signaled lane change; do not use sudden braking as a warning.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Multiple Lanes; printed page 34, physical PDF page 46. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  11. Your car begins hydroplaning while traveling straight. What should you do first?

Correct answer: Ease off the accelerator and avoid abrupt braking or steering.

Smoothly reduce power and allow the tires to regain grip. Abrupt steering or braking can make the loss of control worse.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Adjust to Water Over the Roadway: response; printed page 55, physical PDF page 67. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  12. Floodwater covers the roadway ahead and hides the pavement. What should you do?

Correct answer: Turn around safely and choose another route.

Floodwater can hide a washed-out road and can move a vehicle. Do not test it by driving in or going around a closure barrier.

  13. You are joining a highway using an entrance ramp. What should you do before moving into the traffic lane?

Correct answer: Adjust speed, check your blind spot and choose a safe gap.

A ramp helps you prepare for the merge. Match conditions without exceeding limits, and do not enter a gap that would force a collision or sudden braking.

  14. In normal conditions with a clear exit ramp, where should you make the main reduction in speed for the exit?

Correct answer: After moving into the exit lane or ramp.

Move into the proper exit path before making the main slowdown. Account for actual queues or hazards rather than treating this normal-condition guidance as absolute.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Exiting Traffic; printed page 56, physical PDF page 68. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  15. A crowded shopping-center parking area has limited sight lines and vehicles backing out. How should you adjust?

Correct answer: Drive more slowly and be ready for people or vehicles entering your path.

Crowded areas leave less room and time to respond. A lower speed helps you deal with people, stopped cars and unexpected reversing movements.

  16. A learner-license holder has turned 16 but has not finished the required six months of restricted driving. Is the birthday alone enough to remove the restriction?

Correct answer: No; both the age condition and restricted-driving period must be met.

The guide combines the sixteenth birthday with completion of six months of restricted driving. Do not treat either condition alone as removing the restriction.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Learner's License: restriction period; printed page 3, physical PDF page 15. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  17. An intermediate-license holder wants to take two unrelated minor friends for a ride without a licensed 21-or-older adult in the front seat. Is this permitted under the ordinary passenger rule?

Correct answer: No; the ordinary limit without that adult is one unrelated minor passenger.

The passenger rule limits unrelated minors unless the specified licensed adult accompanies the driver in the front seat. The scenario includes no such supervisor.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Intermediate License: unrelated passengers; printed page 4, physical PDF page 16. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  18. At midnight, an intermediate-license holder plans an unaccompanied recreational drive unrelated to school, church, work or an emergency. What does the nighttime rule require?

Correct answer: Do not make that recreational drive during the restricted hours.

The ordinary nighttime restriction applies from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. The guide lists specific accompanied and purpose-based exceptions, none of which is present here.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Intermediate License: nighttime driving; printed page 4, physical PDF page 16. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  19. Where should the lap portion of your safety belt rest?

Correct answer: Low across the hips and upper thighs.

Correct positioning helps the belt load the stronger pelvic area. Keep the belt snug and flat rather than moving it onto the soft abdomen.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Operating the Motor Vehicle: seat-belt placement; printed page 43, physical PDF page 55. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  20. The shoulder belt feels inconvenient. Should you tuck it behind your back while driving?

Correct answer: No; keep it properly positioned across the upper chest.

Putting the shoulder belt behind you removes an important part of its restraint function. An air bag does not replace correct belt use.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Operating the Motor Vehicle: shoulder belt; printed page 43, physical PDF page 55. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗
