  1. You want to drive straight through an intersection, but your signal is steady red. What must you do?

Correct answer: Stop and wait for a signal that permits you to proceed.

A red signal stops the through movement. An empty intersection or another driver's action does not authorize you to continue.

  2. Your light turns green while another vehicle is still clearing the intersection. What should you do?

Correct answer: Wait for the vehicle to clear before proceeding safely.

A green signal is permission to proceed only when the path is safe. Give traffic already in the intersection time to clear.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Lighted Traffic Signals; printed page 23, physical PDF page 35. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  3. A steady yellow appears as you approach, and you can stop safely before the intersection. What is the correct response?

Correct answer: Make a controlled stop.

Yellow warns that the signal is changing to red. When a safe stop is possible, stop instead of racing the change.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Lighted Traffic Signals; printed page 23, physical PDF page 35. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  4. A traffic signal ahead is flashing red. How should you treat it?

Correct answer: Stop fully, then proceed when safe after yielding.

Flashing red uses the stop-sign procedure: a complete stop followed by a safe, yielding decision. It is not a rolling-stop signal.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Flashing Lights; printed page 24, physical PDF page 36. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  5. You approach a flashing yellow traffic signal with a clear view. What does it call for?

Correct answer: Slow down and proceed cautiously.

Flashing yellow calls for caution and a reduced approach speed. Look for conflicts rather than assuming that other road users will stop.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Flashing Lights; printed page 24, physical PDF page 36. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  6. A broken white line separates your lane from a lane moving in the same direction. What does it allow?

Correct answer: A lane change when it is safe.

A broken white lane line permits a safe lane change. It does not give you priority over a vehicle occupying the lane you intend to enter.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); White Lane Markings; printed page 31, physical PDF page 43. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  7. A broken yellow centerline is on your side of a two-way road. What must you confirm before crossing it to pass?

Correct answer: A legal passing opportunity with sufficient clear opposing-road space.

The marking allows passing only when the maneuver can be completed safely. You still need enough sight distance and space before oncoming traffic arrives.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Yellow Lane Markings; printed page 31, physical PDF page 43. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  8. A two-way road has a solid double yellow centerline. What does it mean for overtaking another moving vehicle?

Correct answer: Passing across the centerline is prohibited in either direction.

The double yellow centerline prohibits overtaking across it from either side. This question concerns passing, not the separate driveway-turn situation.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Yellow Lane Markings; printed page 31, physical PDF page 43. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  9. You need to turn left into a driveway across a solid yellow centerline. The turn is otherwise lawful and no opposing traffic is approaching. What does the Arkansas guide allow?

Correct answer: Crossing the line to make the safe left turn.

The guide distinguishes a driveway turn from passing across a solid yellow line. Check the entire turning path and yield before completing the turn.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Yellow Lane Markings: driveway turn; printed page 31, physical PDF page 43. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  10. May you use a shared center left-turn lane as a lane in which to build up speed before joining traffic?

Correct answer: No; it is not an acceleration lane.

Arkansas allows the center lane as part of certain left-turn entry maneuvers, but specifically excludes using it as an acceleration lane.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Shared Center Lane; printed page 32, physical PDF page 44. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  11. The posted speed is safe in dry weather, but heavy rain now reduces traction. What should you do?

Correct answer: Reduce speed to suit the conditions.

Posted maximums assume suitable conditions. Rain, surface grip and visibility can require a lower speed even when the sign has not changed.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Adjust to Road Conditions; printed page 54, physical PDF page 66. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  12. When should you reduce speed for a sharp curve?

    Correct answer: Before entering it.

Entering at an appropriate speed reduces the need for abrupt braking while turning. Excess speed can use up the tire grip needed to follow the curve.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Curves; printed page 54, physical PDF page 66. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  13. The road is cold and damp, but most of it looks clear. Which area may become icy sooner?

Correct answer: A bridge or overpass.

Bridges and overpasses can freeze while nearby road surfaces remain clear. Approach cautiously instead of judging them by the last dry-looking section.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Adjust to Slippery Roads: bridges; printed page 55, physical PDF page 67. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  14. Where can ice remain after nearby sunny pavement starts to thaw?

Correct answer: In shaded sections of the road.

Shade can keep a road surface cold longer. A change in sunlight can mean a change in traction within the same trip.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Adjust to Slippery Roads: shade; printed page 55, physical PDF page 67. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  15. On a wet road your tires begin riding on water and steering response weakens. What is happening?

    Correct answer: Hydroplaning.

Hydroplaning occurs when water separates tires from the road. Speed and tire condition affect the risk; there is no universal speed that guarantees traction.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Adjust to Water Over the Roadway; printed page 55, physical PDF page 67. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  16. What is the minimum age to apply for an ordinary Arkansas instruction permit?

    Correct answer: 14.

The instruction-permit starting age is 14. Age alone does not issue a permit: the applicant still needs the required tests and application documents.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Instruction Permit: minimum age; printed page 3, physical PDF page 15. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  17. Who must sit beside an Arkansas instruction-permit holder during ordinary on-road practice?

Correct answer: A licensed driver at least 21 years old.

The permit requires a licensed supervisor aged 21 or older in the seat beside the driver. An older passenger elsewhere in the car does not satisfy that arrangement.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Instruction Permit: supervision; printed page 3, physical PDF page 15. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  18. Which tests does the guide require before issuing an ordinary instruction permit?

Correct answer: The knowledge exam and vision test.

The knowledge and vision checks are part of obtaining the permit. A score on an independent practice website is not an official examination result.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Instruction Permit: knowledge and vision; printed page 3, physical PDF page 15. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  19. How long does the current Arkansas guide say an instruction permit is issued for from the date the knowledge exam is passed?

    Correct answer: Two years.

The July 2026 guide states a two-year permit period from the passed knowledge exam. This is permit validity, not permission to skip supervision or skills testing.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Instruction Permit: validity; printed page 3, physical PDF page 15. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗

  20. Who must wear a seat belt when riding with an Arkansas instruction-permit holder?

    Correct answer: All passengers.

The instruction-permit rules require all passengers to buckle up. This supervised-driving condition is not limited to the front seat.

Source: Arkansas Driver License Study Guide, Volume 1, Edition 10, July 2026 (07222026); Instruction Permit: passenger restraints; printed page 3, physical PDF page 15. Checked September 22, 2026. ↗
