  1. You want to drive straight through an intersection, but your signal is steady red. What must you do?

Correct answer: Stop and wait for a signal that permits you to proceed.

A red signal stops the through movement. An empty intersection or another driver's action does not authorize you to continue.

  2. Your light turns green while another vehicle is still clearing the intersection. What should you do?

Correct answer: Wait for the vehicle to clear before proceeding safely.

A green signal is permission to proceed only when the path is safe. Give traffic already in the intersection time to clear.

  3. A steady yellow appears as you approach, and you can stop safely before the intersection. What is the correct response?

Correct answer: Make a controlled stop.

Yellow warns that the signal is changing to red. When a safe stop is possible, stop instead of racing the change.

  4. A traffic signal ahead is flashing red. How should you treat it?

Correct answer: Stop fully, then proceed when safe after yielding.

Flashing red uses the stop-sign procedure: a complete stop followed by a safe, yielding decision. It is not a rolling-stop signal.

  5. You approach a flashing yellow traffic signal with a clear view. What does it call for?

Correct answer: Slow down and proceed cautiously.

Flashing yellow calls for caution and a reduced approach speed. Look for conflicts rather than assuming that other road users will stop.

  6. The signal for your left-turn lane is a steady red arrow. What should you do?

Correct answer: Remain stopped instead of turning in that direction.

The Arkansas guide prohibits the movement indicated by a red arrow. Do not substitute the flashing-yellow-arrow rule for this signal.

  7. You have a flashing yellow left arrow and an oncoming vehicle is close enough to conflict with your turn. What should you do?

Correct answer: Yield and wait for a safe opening.

A flashing yellow arrow permits a cautious left turn after yielding. It does not stop opposing traffic or remove the need to check for pedestrians.

  8. A green arrow permits your turn, but a pedestrian is still in your turning path. What should you do?

Correct answer: Wait for the path to clear, then make the permitted turn.

Use a green arrow only when the movement is safe. A permitted turn does not justify striking someone already in the path.

  9. You stop at a circular red signal beside a NO TURN ON RED sign. The road looks empty. May you turn right now?

Correct answer: No. The sign prohibits that turn while the signal is red.

A sign prohibiting right turns on red removes that option. A complete stop and an empty roadway do not cancel the sign.

  10. No sign prohibits a right turn on a circular red light. After stopping, you see a pedestrian crossing the road you would enter. What should you do?

Correct answer: Yield to the pedestrian and wait until the turn is safe.

A permitted right turn on red still requires a full stop and a clear path. Check both traffic and the crosswalk before turning.

  11. You stop at a stop sign, but a building blocks your view of cross traffic. What should you do next?

Correct answer: Ease forward carefully to obtain a view, yielding before entering.

Complete the required stop first. Then advance cautiously only far enough to see, without taking another road user's right of way.

  12. A stop sign has a painted stop line before the intersection. Where should your first complete stop occur?

Correct answer: Before your vehicle reaches the stop line.

The line establishes the stopping position. Stopping past it can place your vehicle in the space needed by pedestrians or cross traffic.
