  1. You face a circular red light and want to turn right. No sign prohibits it and no red arrow controls the turn. What must you do?

Correct answer: Stop completely, then turn only after yielding and finding a safe gap.

A right turn on circular red is permitted only after a full stop and when safe. It does not override another road user's priority.

  2. You are on a one-way street turning left into another one-way street. The light is circular red, with no prohibiting sign or red arrow. What does Delaware permit?

Correct answer: A left turn after a full stop, yielding and confirming it is safe.

The manual permits this one-way-to-one-way left turn on red after a complete stop when not otherwise prohibited. You must still yield and make the turn safely.

  3. The light turns yellow as you approach, and you can stop safely before the intersection. What should you do?

Correct answer: Stop before entering the intersection.

Yellow warns that the signal is changing to red. Continue carefully only when too close to stop safely; that is not the situation described.

  4. A circular signal facing you flashes red. What is the correct response?

Correct answer: Come to a complete stop and proceed only when safe.

A flashing red has the same meaning as a stop sign. Stop fully, check for traffic and proceed when it is safe.

  5. A circular signal flashes yellow at an intersection. How should you approach?

Correct answer: Slow down, watch carefully and proceed with caution.

Flashing yellow calls for increased caution, not an automatic guarantee of priority or a requirement to await green.

  6. You want to turn in the direction of a steady red arrow. What must you do?

Correct answer: Stop and do not proceed in that direction while the red arrow is displayed.

The steady red arrow prohibits proceeding in its direction. The circular-red turn permission does not override this arrow.

  7. Your turn signal displays a flashing red arrow. How may you make that turn?

Correct answer: Stop completely, then turn in that direction when a safe gap is available.

Delaware permits the indicated turn after a full stop at a flashing red arrow. The driver must then select a safe gap and yield as needed.

  8. A flashing yellow left arrow is displayed. What does it require?

Correct answer: Yield to opposing traffic and pedestrians before turning left.

The indicated movement is permitted only after yielding. A flashing yellow arrow is not the protected movement indicated by a green arrow.

  9. You have a green left arrow, but a pedestrian is still lawfully crossing your turning path. What should you do?

Correct answer: Yield to the pedestrian before making the indicated turn.

Even with a green arrow, yield to people and vehicles lawfully in the intersection. The arrow applies only to its indicated movement.

  10. All signal indications facing you are dark. Under Delaware's stated rule, how should you approach?

Correct answer: Reduce speed and prepare to yield to vehicles in or approaching the intersection.

The Delaware manual directs approaching drivers to reduce speed and prepare to yield when no lighted indication is visible. Do not assume other traffic has been stopped.

  11. A 15-year-old has completed driver education and wants a Delaware Level One Learner's Permit. What must still happen before meeting the minimum age requirement?

Correct answer: The applicant must turn 16.

The Level One permit begins at age 16. Completing driver education or having parental support does not lower that minimum.

  12. A 16-year-old is applying for a Level One permit after driver education. What evidence of that training does DMV require?

Correct answer: The appropriate certificate showing successful completion of an approved driver education course.

The applicant must present the Delaware Driver Education Certificate. An out-of-state course needs Department of Education approval; informal preparation is not a substitute.
