How we built this practice

Driver handbook

Our road-rule questions reference the July 23, 2026 PDF linked by Kentucky State Police. Internal question references record the physical PDF page, which differs from the printed page number. Visit the testing page for the current manual and appointment information.

School-bus stops: current rule

Under the version of KRS 189.370 effective July 15, 2026, the opposite-direction exception requires a highway with four or more lanes separated by an elevated barrier or unpaved median. Four lanes without that separation are not enough. The practice questions distinguish these road layouts.

Official sign illustrations

The 25 sign exercises use our existing shared recognition questions and official FHWA illustrations. They retain their source credits and September 15, 2026 review dates. These are common sign meanings, not 25 Kentucky-only rules.

Practice available now

The question set has 235 questions: 64 foundational road and safety scenarios, 16 licensing or test-preparation questions, 40 additional state-law scenarios, 40 vehicle-preparation and control scenarios, 20 renewal and document questions, 16 pavement-marking questions, 14 permit-restriction and driving-decision questions, and 25 sign exercises. 11 numbered tests partition the 210 non-sign questions. Topics and random mixes reuse these records; they do not add new questions to the total.

Renewal and document help

These questions cover selected current KYTC procedures, not a prediction of knowledge-test topics. Renewal, replacement, first REAL ID upgrades and out-of-state transfers have different requirements. Check the relevant official page before applying.

Separate motorcycle practice

The rider question set has 80 core two-wheel questions plus three mechanical-emergency questions checked against the current-linked 2023 Kentucky motorcycle manual, and 12 questions on selected current licensing and equipment rules. Another 32 questions form a separate MSF three-wheel handling supplement, not a Kentucky licensing chapter. The current KYTC page and law are used for licensing procedures, which differ from the older manual introduction. Rider progress and mistakes stay separate from car practice.

Separate CDL practice

580 commercial-driver questions cover 100 general-knowledge scenarios and 40 each on air brakes, combination vehicles, passenger transport, doubles/triples and tank vehicles, plus 60 school-bus, 80 hazardous-materials, 80 licensing/training and 60 skills-test knowledge questions. State-manual guidance and federal requirements are identified separately. This is not a complete CDL course.

Keep the rule and its conditions together

Phones: age matters

Ordinary text messages and emails are prohibited while driving in motion. For drivers under 18, the restriction is broader and includes routine calls and manual entry into a phone navigation app. Emergency exceptions are limited.

Move over when safe

A disabled car showing warning signals is covered too. On a qualifying highway, change to a lane away from the vehicle when safe. If the road has fewer than four lanes or changing is unsafe, reduce speed and proceed cautiously.

Two different crash duties

Immediate notification for an injury or an inoperable vehicle is separate from the later written-report requirement for a crash that police do not investigate. A ten-day filing deadline is not permission to delay summoning help.

Passing exceptions have limits

The bicycle-passing centerline exception requires clear sight distance, no conflict with oncoming traffic and compliance with other restrictions. A turn signal or a slow vehicle does not by itself make passing lawful.

Coverage and limits

Not every handbook rule or exception is covered. Selected phone, alcohol, move-over, crash-reporting, passing and parking rules now have dedicated practice, alongside vehicle preparation and control. The pavement-marking topic now covers standard line colors and patterns, edge lines, reversible and shared-turn lane boundaries, yield lines, arrows and painted separation areas. Its standard marking meanings are checked against FHWA's MUTCD, 11th Edition with Revision 1 (December 2025), alongside the Kentucky handbook diagrams. The additional permit-restriction and driving-decision practice covers selected graduated-license restrictions, transfer and test documents, turning and parking decisions, protected crossings and roadside duties. Together these provide a finite ordinary Class D study path; uncommon administrative situations and every possible legal exception are not claimed covered. The vehicle-control questions teach knowledge; they do not replace supervised driving or prove hands-on competence. The separate CDL question set covers 100 selected general-knowledge scenarios and 40 each on air brakes, combination vehicles, passenger transport, doubles/triples and tank vehicles, plus 60 school-bus, 80 hazardous-materials, 80 licensing/training and 60 skills-test knowledge questions, not all endorsements, full licensing or practical skills. The separate motorcycle section covers selected two-wheel skills and rider requirements, not every rider topic.
