  1. What do yellow centerlines generally separate?

Correct answer: Traffic moving in opposite directions.

Yellow centerlines divide opposing traffic. White lane lines normally separate vehicles traveling in the same direction.

  2. A broken yellow centerline is on your side of a two-lane road. May you cross it to pass?

Correct answer: Only when the maneuver is otherwise legal and safe.

A broken line permits passing where other restrictions and conditions allow. It does not remove the need for adequate sight distance and a safe gap.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Broken yellow centerline; printed page 34, physical PDF page 39; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  3. Can you cross double solid yellow centerlines to overtake a slow car?

Correct answer: No; they prohibit passing across the centerline.

Do not confuse a permitted turn across centerlines with permission to pass. Double solid yellow centerlines prohibit the overtaking maneuver described.

  4. You want to change lanes across a dashed white line. What does the line allow?

Correct answer: A lane change when you have checked and can move safely.

Dashed white lines allow safe lane changes. Check mirrors and the blind spot, signal, and leave adequate space.

  5. What does a single solid white lane line tell you about changing lanes across it?

Correct answer: The movement is hazardous and requires great care.

The guide distinguishes a single solid white line from double solid white lines. A single solid white line warns that crossing it is hazardous.

  6. Two lanes moving in the same direction are separated by double solid white lines. May you cross them for a routine lane change?

Correct answer: No; crossing these lines is prohibited.

Double solid white lines prohibit crossing. Choose another lawful route rather than cutting over them to reach an exit.

  7. How far before a turn must a Louisiana driver signal continuously at minimum?

    Correct answer: 100 feet.

The guide specifies a continuous turn signal for at least the last 100 feet before the turn. Faster traffic or heavy traffic may require earlier notice.

  8. You must wait in the roadway before turning left across traffic. How should you position the front wheels?

Correct answer: Keep them straight until it is safe to turn.

Straight wheels reduce the chance that a rear impact will push your vehicle into oncoming traffic while you are waiting.

  9. You are preparing a left turn from a shared two-way center turn lane. What is Louisiana's maximum travel distance in that lane?

    Correct answer: 200 feet.

The center lane serves left turns from both directions. The guide limits travel in it to 200 feet, so do not enter it far before the turn.

  10. A queue is moving slowly beside a shared center left-turn lane. May you use that lane to pass the queue and rejoin through traffic?

Correct answer: No; the shared lane is for left turns, not passing.

Using the center lane as a passing or through lane creates conflicts with vehicles turning from either direction.

  11. Your mirrors show an empty lane beside you. What should you do before moving into it?

Correct answer: Check over your shoulder for a vehicle in the blind spot.

Mirrors leave areas outside their view. A brief direct blind-spot check complements the mirror and signal checks before a lane change.

  12. Your exit is close, but you cannot safely move into its lane. What should you do?

Correct answer: Continue to a later exit and adjust your route.

Missing an exit is less dangerous than forcing an unsafe lane change. The guide advises continuing and finding another opportunity.

  13. You plan a normal right turn where no markings authorize a turn from another lane. Which approach is correct?

Correct answer: Turn from the rightmost appropriate lane without first swinging left.

A normal right turn starts from the rightmost lane. Slow before turning and follow any signs or markings that authorize additional turning lanes.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Right-turn preparation; printed page 90, physical PDF page 95; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  14. How should you prepare for a multilane roundabout?

Correct answer: Choose the correct lane for your destination before entering.

The guide advises selecting the proper lane before entering and avoiding lane changes or passing inside. Follow the destination signs and markings.

  15. On a two-lane road, a hill hides oncoming traffic beyond the crest. Should you start passing a slower vehicle?

Correct answer: No; wait until you have a clear, legal passing opportunity.

A blocked view prevents you from knowing that the opposing lane is clear. The guide prohibits passing when a hill or curve hides traffic.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Blind hill and passing; printed page 71, physical PDF page 76; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  16. Traffic ahead is slow and the paved shoulder is clear. May you use the shoulder to pass?

Correct answer: No; a paved shoulder is not a passing lane.

The guide prohibits passing on the shoulder, whether paved or unpaved. Use a lawful travel lane only when the pass is safe.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Passing on the shoulder; printed page 72, physical PDF page 77; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  17. You find a space 8 feet from a fire hydrant. May you park there?

Correct answer: No; it is within the prohibited 15-foot distance.

The guide lists parking within 15 feet of a hydrant as prohibited. A short stay does not turn it into a lawful parking space.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Fire hydrant parking; printed page 70, physical PDF page 75; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  18. An accessible parking space has a striped access aisle beside it. Can you park in that striped area while waiting?

Correct answer: No; keep the access aisle clear.

The aisle provides room to load, unload and reach the accessible space. Blocking its intended use is prohibited even if you are waiting briefly.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Accessible access aisle; printed page 71, physical PDF page 76; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  19. Before opening your street-side door after parking, what should you check?

Correct answer: For passing vehicles and bicyclists beside the car.

A passing cyclist or vehicle may have little time to avoid a suddenly opened door. Look carefully before opening it into the street.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Opening a parked car door; printed page 70, physical PDF page 75; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗

  20. You are about to reverse out of a parking space. Which approach follows the guide?

Correct answer: Check all around, look behind and back slowly.

Check for children, pets and objects before backing. Keep directly observing the path and be ready to stop; mirrors alone are not enough.

Source: Louisiana Class D & E Driver's Guide linked by OMV (cover R08/25; internal revision markers vary); Backing safely; printed page 73, physical PDF page 78; reviewed September 22, 2026. ↗
