Sources and coverage
The basics question set has 60 original scenarios: 20 safe-driving, 20 inspection and 20 cargo questions. The three numbered tests partition those records; topic tests and random attempts reuse the same questions. No official or competitor practice questions was extracted.
Sources checked September 22, 2026: FMCSA safety guidance and its Motor Carrier Safety Planner, with current 49 CFR 393.104, 393.106 and 393.110 used directly for cargo questions. These federal rules concern covered CMV operations, particularly interstate operations; they do not establish Louisiana licensing procedures or intrastate exceptions. Following-time examples are safety guidelines, not state statutory minimums.
This is not a complete general-knowledge course or an official exam simulation. Two separate question sets add 40 air-brake and 40 combination-vehicle questions from manual sections 5 and 6. Other question sets add 40 passenger, 20 tank, 20 doubles/triples, 60 school-bus and 80 hazardous-materials questions with manual sections 4, 7, 8 and 10, supplementary FMCSA passenger guidance and current PHMSA/eCFR hazardous-material sources. Three further question sets add 40 road-condition and emergency, 40 federal hours-of-service, and 20 cargo-inspection and load-planning scenarios. A further 40-question licensing question set covers selected Louisiana application requirements, federal classes, permits and ELDT. A separate 40-practice questions adds detailed inspection and practical-test preparation; it does not replace hands-on training. Another 40 questions address notification duties, disqualification and selected Louisiana administrative requirements. Remaining endorsement material, application exceptions and the full skills curriculum still need coverage. The official OMV-linked CDL manual has 180 physical pages and a July 2017 cover version; we do not call it a 2026 edition. Our basics scenarios are adapted from our own shared federal material, not copied manual test questions or artwork. Current requirements and practical training remain essential.
Cargo source note: an older FMCSA summary still describes an inboard-rub-rail routing clause that was removed in 2006. Our rub-rail question follows current 49 CFR 393.104 and does not treat outside routing alone as a violation. Adequate strength, secure attachment and required edge protection still matter.
basics random practice uses 25 questions and an editorial target of 20 correct. Those numbers are our learning settings, not verified official Louisiana exam specifications. Practice is untimed, with immediate explanations.
