Review all 20 questions with answers
  1. A bus's previous inspection report lists a safety defect. Before starting the next trip, what should the driver establish?

Correct answer: That the defect has been properly addressed and the required certification reviewed.

Review the prior inspection report. Listed safety defects must have the required certification that they were repaired or that repair was unnecessary; a completed earlier trip does not establish present safety.

  2. An otherwise clean passenger seat shifts at its floor mounting during inspection. What is the appropriate response?

Correct answer: Have the insecure mounting corrected before the bus carries passengers.

Passenger seats must be firmly attached. Clean upholstery does not compensate for an unsafe mounting.

  3. A strip of aisle flooring has lifted beside a row of bus seats. Why does this need attention before boarding?

Correct answer: It can make passengers trip while moving through the bus.

The interior check includes walking surfaces and trip hazards. A raised edge can cause a fall even when the bus is not moving.

  4. An emergency-window handle is damaged although the glass is intact. Which conclusion is appropriate?

Correct answer: The exit mechanism needs correction; intact glass alone is not enough.

Emergency exits need working operating mechanisms, not merely undamaged glass. Inspecting handles and access is part of passenger safety.

  5. A carry-on bag fits in the aisle without touching a seated passenger. May it remain there for the trip?

Correct answer: No; stow it so the aisle and access to doorways stay clear.

Passenger access and evacuation routes must remain clear. Baggage that seems harmless while everyone is seated can obstruct movement when needed.

  6. A heavy bag is loose on a luggage shelf above occupied seats. What needs to be checked?

Correct answer: That its placement and restraint keep it from falling or shifting onto people.

Baggage must not endanger passengers through movement or falling. Ownership and appearance do not establish safe stowage.

  7. On a bus designed to carry standing passengers, someone stands forward of its marked standee boundary. What should the driver do?

Correct answer: Have the passenger move behind that boundary before proceeding.

The designated boundary keeps standing riders out of the driver's forward working area. A handhold does not make the wrong standing position acceptable.

  8. The aisle is lower than the seating area on a coach approaching a rest stop. Which announcement is useful before passengers get up?

Correct answer: Warn them about the step down into the aisle.

An advance warning about the floor-level change helps passengers avoid falls when leaving their seats. Give useful arrival information before they begin moving.

  9. A bus is pulling close to a curb beside a signpost. Its wheels will clear the post. What else must the driver consider?

Correct answer: Whether the projecting mirrors and upper body also clear it.

Bus mirrors project beyond the body and can strike roadside objects even when the tires clear them. Check the full vehicle envelope.

  10. A bus driver signals to enter a traffic stream, but the available gap remains too small. What should the driver do?

Correct answer: Wait for a safe gap rather than assuming other drivers will brake.

A turn signal communicates intention; it does not guarantee that another driver will yield. Choose enough space to merge without forcing a conflict.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.3.3, physical PDF page 90. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  11. A curve's advisory sign suggests a speed that an ordinary car can manage. How should a bus driver use that information?

Correct answer: Assess the bus and conditions; a lower entry speed may be necessary.

A bus has different handling and rollover characteristics from a car. Slow before the curve to a speed suitable for the actual vehicle and conditions.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.3.4, physical PDF page 90. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  12. Cross traffic has a stop sign as a bus approaches an intersection. What should the bus driver still anticipate?

Correct answer: A conflicting driver may fail to stop, so observe and approach cautiously.

Traffic controls do not guarantee compliance by other road users. Continue observing for conflicts even when the bus has the right of way.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.3.3, physical PDF page 90. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  13. A proposed fueling location is inside a closed building while passengers remain aboard. What should the driver recognize?

Correct answer: Do not refuel there with riders on board.

The handbook specifically rules out refueling inside a closed building with passengers aboard. Switching off the engine does not remove that passenger-safety restriction.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.5, physical PDF page 90. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  14. A disabled bus cannot discharge passengers safely at its current position. Under the handbook's limited exception, how far may an occupied bus be moved by towing or pushing?

Correct answer: Only to the nearest safe place to discharge them, following employer procedures.

Moving an occupied disabled bus is a limited safety exception when getting off would be unsafe. It is not permission to continue the trip with passengers aboard.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.5, continued from physical page 90, physical PDF page 91. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  15. A transit coach has the brake-and-accelerator interlock described in the handbook. What happens while its rear door is open?

Correct answer: The brakes are applied and the throttle is held at idle.

On the described system, opening the rear door activates a brake and throttle interlock; closing it releases that interlock. Actual equipment procedures still govern operation.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.6, physical PDF page 91. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  16. A driver intends to park a transit bus and rely only on its open-door interlock to hold it. What is wrong with that plan?

Correct answer: The door interlock is not a substitute for setting the parking brake.

A door-related safety interlock can release when the door closes. Use the parking brake and the correct securing procedure instead of treating the interlock as a parking device.

Source: Louisiana OMV-linked Commercial Driver's License Manual, July 2017 cover version; section 4.6, physical PDF page 91. General passenger-safety knowledge, not Louisiana licensing or route authorization; actual equipment instructions and supervised training remain necessary. ↗

  17. Which message belongs in a motorcoach's emergency-evacuation briefing?

Correct answer: Encourage passengers who can help to assist injured or mobility-impaired riders.

FMCSA recommends encouraging capable passengers to help people who need assistance. This supports evacuation and does not turn baggage retrieval into a priority.

Source: FMCSA recommended motorcoach passenger safety briefing; Emergency exits. Recommended safety briefing, not a claim of Louisiana-specific law. ↗

  18. A motorcoach seat is equipped with a lap-and-shoulder belt. What should the safety briefing recommend?

Correct answer: Use the belt while occupying that seating position.

FMCSA recommends using installed passenger belts. The question applies to equipped seating positions and does not imply that every motorcoach has identical equipment.

Source: FMCSA recommended motorcoach passenger safety briefing; Seat Belt Use. Recommended safety briefing, not a claim of Louisiana-specific law. ↗

  19. What emergency telephone instruction does FMCSA recommend including in a motorcoach briefing?

Correct answer: Call 911 in an emergency using a cellular telephone.

The recommended briefing identifies 911 as an emergency contact. A booking inquiry or routine office call is not a substitute for requesting emergency assistance.

Source: FMCSA recommended motorcoach passenger safety briefing; Emergency Contact. Recommended safety briefing, not a claim of Louisiana-specific law. ↗

  20. A motorcoach restroom has an emergency signaling button. What should passengers be told about it?

Correct answer: Its presence and purpose as an emergency signal.

FMCSA recommends informing passengers about the installed restroom emergency signal. Do not assume its function is obvious or confuse it with vehicle braking controls.

Source: FMCSA recommended motorcoach passenger safety briefing; Restroom Emergency Push Button or Switch. Recommended safety briefing, not a claim of Louisiana-specific law. ↗

Louisiana passenger transport practice

40 original learning questions. Start with a 20-question test and read the explanation after each answer.

Selected practice, not a complete Louisiana CDL course or an official exam.

Topics and coverage

580 questions cover 60 federal commercial-vehicle questions, 40 air brakes, 40 combination vehicles, 40 passenger transport, 20 tank vehicles, 20 doubles/triples, 60 school-bus, 80 hazardous-materials, 40 road-conditions, 40 hours-of-service, 20 cargo-operations, 40 licensing, 40 inspection/practical-preparation and 40 driver-responsibility scenarios. The licensing questions cover selected requirements; further intrastate exceptions, remaining endorsement material and complete skills coverage are still needed; this is not a complete CDL course.

Sources and coverage

These questions cover interior and exterior checks, safe boarding and stowage, passenger supervision, curve and crossing awareness, post-trip checks, refueling precautions, occupied-bus recovery and brake-door interlocks. Manual references identify section 4, physical pages 88–91; twelve additional records use the linked FMCSA passenger and railroad guidance.

Checked September 22, 2026 using the 180-page CDL manual currently linked by Louisiana OMV and the three FMCSA pages below. The manual cover says July 2017; we do not call it a 2026 edition. These are our independently written shared scenarios, not extracted official or competitor questions. No manual artwork was copied.

The two numbered tests partition the same 40 records. Random practice selects 20 from that question set; questions can recur across attempts. Twenty questions is our learning format, not a verified official Louisiana exam length or pass target. This is not a complete Louisiana CDL course.

This is not a full P or S endorsement course. School-bus-specific duties, licensing, eligibility, skills testing and hazardous-material acceptance limits require separate preparation. The old manual hazard-label table is not presented as current law. Railroad stopping guidance is qualified for covered operations and applicable exceptions; the motorcoach briefing is a recommendation, not a Louisiana-specific legal mandate.

These quizzes do not qualify a driver to operate the equipment. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and obtain practical training under qualified supervision. A written answer cannot demonstrate a safe inspection or maneuver.
