Road narrows
What does it mean?
The roadway becomes narrower ahead. Expect less room between your vehicle, opposing traffic, and the road edges; this warning alone does not specify that a traffic lane ends.
What to do when you see it
- Reduce speed before the narrow section as conditions require.
- Keep within your lane and watch approaching vehicles.
- Allow extra clearance from road edges and other road users.
How to recognize it
- Yellow diamond.
- Black ROAD NARROWS lettering.
On the road
A wide rural road narrows between old stone walls. You slow and hold a careful lane position as an oncoming vehicle enters the narrow section.
Don’t confuse it with

Lane ends
Lane Ends specifically warns that the number of lanes in your direction is reduced.

Narrow bridge
Narrow Bridge identifies the bridge as the location of the reduced width.
