New Mexico car practice: sources and coverage
86 common car-technique and national sign-recognition questions, with explanations after each answer. Short sets, focused topics and fresh mixes use the same questions.
Common skills and local requirements are separate studies. Alongside common driving and signs, practice graduated licensing, insurance, impairment and adult restraints, intersections, sharing the road and collision duties. Use these selected topics alongside the full New Mexico manual. How we built this practice.

How we built this practice
This practice reuses 58 selected techniques from the Iowa Driver’s Manual, MM1170 dated July 23, 2026, plus 28 national sign questions based on FHWA MUTCD 2009 illustrations and descriptions. The road material was matched to readable manual text, not unverified Iowa diagrams. The existing sign images, crops and credits are preserved; an example retained FHWA illustration source shows the attribution basis.
Original question-level source references and review dates remain in internal records: September 29, 2026 for the road questions, and September 15 or September 28, 2026 for the signs. October 1 was the transfer-selection date, not a new primary-source review. Feedback provides the learning explanation. These 86 reused records are not newly authored national questions or a verified current New Mexico manual.
The selection covers observation, safe maneuvers, space, vehicle preparation, assistance-system limits, fitness, adverse conditions, emergencies and recognition of the signs shown. Iowa attribution remains where a question uses it, including the beginner following-gap recommendation; that recommendation is not a New Mexico legal minimum. A shown regulatory sign’s meaning does not establish unsigned-intersection priority or every local exception.
This common practice does not supply New Mexico permits and GDL, supervision, traffic-signal and priority rules, legal turning/passing/parking permissions, school-bus and move-over duties, child-restraint thresholds, device laws, BAC/refusal rules, insurance or crash-reporting requirements. The separate graduated-licensing set now covers selected learner and provisional requirements. The separate insurance set covers selected policy-route responsibilities. These sets are not a complete permit-law course, official exam specification or substitute for qualified hands-on instruction.
The signal and intersection study adds operational decisions separately from sign recognition. Its source is a 2025 municipal compilation containing state-cited passages, not newly verified current statewide law or proof of municipal adoption. Read that study’s source scope.
The same dated compilation supports separate bus, emergency and rail-crossing practice and collision responsibilities. Their ordinary-driver scenarios preserve the stated exceptions; they do not supply penalties, property-damage reporting amounts, written-report deadlines or full current-code equivalence.
Practice and saved progress
The impairment and adult seat-belt study adds selected responsibilities. Its alcohol and medication explanations use the courts’ 2025 DWI guide, with a stated January 2025 cutoff; its rear-seat belt question uses MVD guidance. It does not supply every current traffic law or chemical-testing procedure. Read that study’s source scope.
Five numbered sets and six topics reuse the same 86 records. The full mix selects 20 from the car practice; each topic mix stays within that topic and uses 20 or fewer real questions. All practice is untimed, with an editorial 80% study target where shown. Saved car mistakes remain separate from motorcycle, CDL and other states’ practice.
The rider source guide, common CDL source guide and school-bus curriculum guide describe their distinct publications and limits. None is relabeled as a complete current New Mexico licensing manual.
New Mexico learner and provisional requirements
10 separate local questions cover supervised practice, progression and selected night/passenger restrictions. Their mistakes join the same car review; the existing common-skill sets and mixes stay unchanged.
Practice graduated licensingNew Mexico insurance responsibilities
7 questions on policy minimums, proof and database corrections, out-of-state coverage and returning a stored vehicle to use. These are selected responsibilities, not a complete financial-responsibility guide.

5 questions distinguish alcohol concentration from impairment, medication effects and separate licensing and court proceedings, plus the ordinary adult rear-seat belt duty. The impairment questions use the courts’ 2025 educational guide, not newly verified current statutory text.

Separate study paths
Common rider skills, common CDL subjects and school-bus practice use their own sources and question selections. Car progress stays separate.
Follow current New Mexico requirements and your vehicle’s instructions. Technique advice and shown-sign meanings do not establish every local rule, permission or exception, and quizzes do not certify practical driving ability.
