  1. A car driver moves into the same lane beside an Oregon motorcyclist, leaving the rider only a narrow strip. What is the applicable lane rule?

Correct answer: The car driver must not deprive the motorcyclist of full use of the lane.

ORS 811.385 prohibits a motor-vehicle driver from depriving a motorcycle operator of full use of a lane. The special rules governing two motorcycles are not permission for a car to crowd a rider.

  2. At an Oregon vehicle-detection signal, a motorcyclist stops completely and waits through one full cycle, but the detector fails to give the rider green. What does the narrow exception allow?

Correct answer: Proceed cautiously only after yielding to conflicting traffic, stopping for pedestrians as required and obeying any other prohibiting control or officer.

ORS 811.360 allows this limited response to a failed detection after a complete stop and one full cycle. It does not give priority over traffic or pedestrians or override another traffic-control device or police direction.
