On a cold ride, most pavement looks dry, but a shaded bridge lies ahead. What should guide your response?
Correct answer: Watch for ice and avoid riding on it if possible, with smooth, cautious control.
Ice can remain on bridges and in shaded areas even when other pavement appears clear. The manual advises avoiding icy surfaces when possible and avoiding abrupt inputs when traction is limited.

Gusts are pushing your motorcycle toward neighboring traffic. What is the safer plan?
Correct answer: Increase your space and stop safely if the wind becomes too dangerous to continue.
Wind can move the motorcycle sideways and make nearby traffic more dangerous. Preserve a larger cushion, adjust to the conditions and stop safely when the wind exceeds your ability to maintain control.

Rain grooves cause a mild wandering sensation, but no mechanical fault is evident. What response is generally appropriate?
Correct answer: Stay relaxed, keep a steady speed and ride straight.
A mild weave on grooves or grating is generally not itself dangerous. Fighting it with abrupt changes can create a greater hazard. This is distinct from a mechanical wobble requiring a safe stop.

Your motorcycle has functioning ABS. During a firm straight-line emergency stop, how should you use the brake controls?
Correct answer: Maintain brake pressure and let ABS regulate wheel lock.
ABS controls pressure to help prevent wheel lock while the brake controls remain applied. Follow the motorcycle manufacturer's instructions; do not confuse this with releasing a locked front wheel on a non-ABS motorcycle.

A dog runs toward your motorcycle. Why is trying to kick it a poor response?
Correct answer: It can upset your balance and take attention from controlling the motorcycle.
Keep control rather than kicking at the animal. The manual describes slowing and downshifting as it approaches, then accelerating away when it nears, only within a safe path and speed.
