Nebraska permit-test explanation sheet

A compact Nebraska reading view of 20 existing sourced practice explanations. Each card keeps the original question, correct answer and explanation together so that a qualified rule is not detached from its scenario.

A short sample of car driving questions. Read the handbook to cover the other topics you need.

Use this as a review aid after reading the handbook. It is not a state exam aid or a complete list of driving laws. Printing may use several pages; the layout does not shrink the text to promise a single sheet.

Test-format qualifications

Class O written knowledge test: The question count is not confirmed in the reviewed agency sources. The correct-answer threshold is not confirmed.

Source qualifications for this format

Current driver manual confirms the written-test requirement but does not specify the question count or score in its test section.

An older agency examiner manual describes Class O as 25 questions with five errors allowed, a 24-item nonverbal version, and 80% generally. These have not been re-confirmed on a current operational page, so operational score fields remain null.

An agency announcement confirms an ASL Class O option; current complete languages were not established.

Review 2 · Learner eligibility

A prospective learner takes the written test 30 days before turning 15. When can the ordinary Nebraska LPD actually be issued?

Correct answer: On or after the 15th birthday.

Testing may begin within 60 days before the birthday, but early testing does not authorize early LPD issuance. This is the ordinary LPD, not a separate school-permit route.

Review 3 · Supervised practice

A car learner wants a licensed 20-year-old friend to supervise from the front passenger seat. Does that meet Nebraska’s ordinary LPD rule?

Correct answer: No; the beside-the-learner licensed supervisor must be at least 21.

The LPD requires a licensed operator at least 21 seated beside an ordinary car learner. Motorcycle visual supervision is a different provision.

Review 5 · Learner restrictions

An LPD holder wants to make a routine hands-free phone call while driving on a Nebraska highway. What does the learner restriction require?

Correct answer: Do not use the interactive wireless device while operating the vehicle.

The LPD rule covers any type of interactive wireless communication device. A hands-free setup does not remove that learner restriction.

Review 7 · Graduated licensing

Which permit-history condition is required before a Nebraska POP can be issued?

Correct answer: A qualifying permit held at least six months, with fewer than three points accumulated in the preceding six months.

Both time and the specified point limit matter. Completing the practice requirement does not waive either condition.

Review 8 · Graduated licensing

Which pair describes Nebraska’s ordinary preparation alternatives for a car POP?

Correct answer: An approved driver safety course, or a 50-hour supervised-driving certification including at least 10 nighttime hours.

The certification route requires actual lawful practice and the designated signer. Course and log routes have different testing consequences.

Review 9 · Graduated licensing

A car POP applicant completes a DMV-approved driver safety course and meets the other eligibility requirements. Which DMV tests does the course completion waive?

Correct answer: The written and drive tests.

The current POP page specifically identifies the written and drive test waiver. A course does not remove all other application requirements.

Review 10 · Graduated licensing

An ordinary car POP applicant uses a 50-hour certification instead of an approved course. Does the log by itself waive the drive test?

Correct answer: No; the drive test is still required for that route.

The certification route requires vision and drive tests. An eligible existing LPD can waive the written exam, not the drive test in this scenario.

Review 11 · POP restrictions

With no qualifying trip or accompanying-driver exception, what are a POP holder’s ordinary unsupervised driving hours?

Correct answer: 6 a.m. to midnight.

Nebraska’s ordinary window differs from other states. The law separately permits specified employment or school-activity travel and qualified accompanied driving.

Review 13 · POP restrictions

During the first six months of a POP, two unrelated 18-year-old friends ask for a ride. What is the ordinary passenger limit relevant to that trip?

Correct answer: No more than one passenger under 19 who is not an immediate family member.

A 18-year-old friend is still under 19. Seat capacity does not remove the first-six-month passenger restriction.

Review 15 · Occupant protection

An adult rides in the rear seat of a modern car driven by a POP holder. May that passenger leave the available belt unused?

Correct answer: No; all persons transported by a POP holder must use the vehicle’s occupant protection system.

The POP occupant-protection rule is not limited to young passengers or the front row.

Review 17 · Graduated licensing

A 17-year-old seeks the standard Class O license from a POP. Which ordinary history qualifies?

Correct answer: At least 12 months holding the POP and fewer than three points in the preceding 12 months.

The under-18 progression rule requires both the 12-month POP history and the specified point record.

Review 18 · Moving to Nebraska

A new Nebraska resident has a valid license from another state. Within what period must the resident obtain a Nebraska license?

Correct answer: Within 30 days.

A valid previous license does not authorize indefinite resident driving on that credential. Other transfer requirements still apply.

Review 19 · First licensing

A 25-year-old first-time applicant has never held a POP or learner permit. Which testing does current DMV guidance require?

Correct answer: Vision, written and drive tests.

The adult first-time route does not remove testing. A qualifying earlier learner permit can affect the written test, but this applicant has none.

Review 20 · Moving to Nebraska

An adult new resident surrenders an out-of-state license that expired two years ago. Which tests does DMV require because of that expiration?

Correct answer: Both written and drive tests.

The current agency page distinguishes a license more than one year expired from a shorter expiration. Other application requirements still apply.
