Important test rules

  • Road-sign recognition is examined separately from knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving.
Sources & exam details
  • Operational DMV page does not state the question count, passing percentage, timer, or complete language list.
  • Proposed/readoption rule copies describe 80% knowledge and 9/12 signs, but the current codified OAH endpoint could not be retrieved; those values are deliberately not promoted to verified current fields.
  • Oral knowledge testing may be requested. No separate teen/adult question-count variant was verified.

Your North Carolina study guide

Use this North Carolina permit practice guide to choose a starting point and compare the available study formats. Its leading topic groups are hazards, weather & emergencies, signs & signals and lanes, turns, passing & parking; these describe this practice selection, not the agency’s published test weighting. Read each situation before choosing an answer, then use the explanation and source link to understand the rule behind it. When an answer surprises you, return to that part of the handbook rather than memorizing the position of the correct choice. Review your missed questions before starting another test. These independent exercises support handbook study; they are not the licensing examination or a guarantee of passing.
