Question 1 of 10Red-light stop position
  1. 1. A red light controls your lane. A painted stop line lies before the crosswalk. Where must you make the required stop?
  2. 2. At an intersection, you face a flashing circular red signal rather than a steady red. What rule governs your movement?
  3. 3. Both intersecting roads carry traffic in two directions, and no special markings alter the turn. Where should you approach a left turn?
  4. 4. You are leaving a parking lot to enter a highway. Who must yield under the rule for entering from a place other than another roadway?
  5. 5. The posted limit is 50 mph and a vehicle travels at 30 mph in a marked no-passing zone. Does its speed satisfy Ohio's less-than-half-speed condition for the special passing exception?
  6. 6. You want to park your car in a bicycle lane to enter a shop. No officer, device, or traffic conflict requires stopping there. Is that permitted?
  7. 7. Heavy traffic and a slick road make the posted limit too fast for the conditions. What does Ohio's basic speed rule require?
  8. 8. A railroad crossing signal warns that a train is immediately approaching. Within what distance range from the nearest rail must you stop?
  9. 9. Why is traveling beside a working snowplow a poor choice?
  10. 10. Where should you find the recommended cold tire pressure for your particular car?

Study & prepare

Your Ohio study guide

Use this Ohio permit practice guide to choose a starting point and compare the available study formats. Its leading topic groups are licensing & laws, signs & signals and lanes, turns, passing & parking; these describe this practice selection, not the agency’s published test weighting. Read each situation before choosing an answer, then use the explanation and source link to understand the rule behind it. When an answer surprises you, return to that part of the handbook rather than memorizing the position of the correct choice. Review your missed questions before starting another test. These independent exercises support handbook study; they are not the licensing examination or a guarantee of passing.

When can I retake Ohio's knowledge test?

After an unsuccessful knowledge test, wait at least 24 hours before trying again. Ohio does not cap in-person knowledge-test attempts, but its online option is limited to two attempts within six months. These rules concern the knowledge test, not the road test.
