Card 1 · White lane lines

Your lane and the lane next to you are separated by a dashed white line. When traffic allows, what may you do?

  1. Change lanes after checking traffic and signaling
  2. Change lanes without looking into the next lane
  3. Drive against traffic to get around a slow vehicle
  4. Stop in either lane while you pick a route
Show answer for card 1

Correct answer: Change lanes after checking traffic and signaling

A dashed white line divides lanes going the same way, and its gaps show that crossing is allowed. Florida still expects a signal, a mirror check and a glance over your shoulder, and a move only once the next lane has room.

Card 2 · Wrong-way reflectors

Red reflectors on the edge lines face you as you enter a highway ramp. What should you recognize?

  1. You are entering the ramp in the wrong direction
  2. You are approaching a normal toll collection point
  3. You are entering a lane reserved for carpools
  4. You are approaching a temporary reduced speed zone
Show answer for card 2

  1. Wait until the gate is fully raised and the controls permit travel
  2. Drive under slowly while watching the moving gate
  3. Follow a larger vehicle through the opening
  4. Proceed if no boat is visible from the roadway
Show answer for card 3

Correct answer: Wait until the gate is fully raised and the controls permit travel

Do not drive under or around a drawbridge gate while it is opening or closing. Wait for a permitted, clear crossing.

Card 4 · Entering a roundabout

You reach the entrance to a roundabout while a car is circulating toward your entry point. What should you do?

  1. Yield and enter behind it when a safe gap opens
  2. Enter first because the circulating car can slow down
  3. Stop inside the roundabout to wait for the car
  4. Enter beside it in the same lane to keep traffic moving
Show answer for card 4

Correct answer: Yield and enter behind it when a safe gap opens

Traffic already circulating has priority. Watch the entry crosswalk as well as the circulating lane.

Card 5 · Passing on the right

A car ahead is waiting to turn left, but the only way around it is onto the shoulder outside the main travel lane. May you pass that way?

  1. No; wait for a lawful, safe path within the roadway
  2. Yes; a left-turn signal makes the shoulder a passing lane
  3. Yes; if your right wheels remain on pavement
  4. Yes; if you first slow below 10 mph
Show answer for card 5

Correct answer: No; wait for a lawful, safe path within the roadway

Passing on the right must be safe and must not leave the pavement or main-traveled part of the roadway.

Card 8 · Continuous insurance

An owner leaves an ordinary Florida-registered passenger car parked for a month. Its registration remains active, and no statutory exemption applies. May the owner let the required insurance lapse just because the car is parked?

  1. No; required security must remain continuous during the registration period
  2. Yes, if the car is parked on private property
  3. Yes, if the owner keeps the keys inside the house
  4. Yes, for any period shorter than 90 days
Show answer for card 8

Correct answer: No; required security must remain continuous during the registration period

Required security ordinarily remains in effect throughout the registration period. Not driving the registered car does not by itself end that requirement.

  1. Vacate the lane closest to the stopped car
  2. Stay in the closest lane because the car is not a police vehicle
  3. Stop alongside the car in the travel lane
  4. Maintain speed and use the horn as you pass
Show answer for card 10

Correct answer: Vacate the lane closest to the stopped car

Florida's Move Over Law includes disabled vehicles displaying hazard or warning lights. Where safe, vacate the closest lane on a road with multiple lanes in your direction.

  1. As soon as you reach a straight stretch of road
  2. After the first lane change shows what you cannot see
  3. Only if the previous driver was shorter than you
  4. Before starting the trip, while the car is safely stationary
Show answer for card 11

Correct answer: Before starting the trip, while the car is safely stationary

Set up your seating position and mirrors before driving so you can reach the controls and observe traffic without leaning around.

Card 12 · Extra space in bad weather

Heavy rain begins while you are following another car with a four-second gap. What should you do?

  1. Keep exactly four seconds because weather does not affect stopping
  2. Close the gap so its taillights are easier to follow
  3. Match its speed even if you cannot see far enough ahead
  4. Increase the following interval beyond the fair-weather minimum
Show answer for card 12

Correct answer: Increase the following interval beyond the fair-weather minimum

Wet pavement and reduced visibility reduce your safety margin. Extra following space gives more time to see and respond.

Card 13 · Flooded roads

Floodwater covers the road ahead and you cannot judge its depth. What should you do?

  1. Enter slowly to find out how deep it is
  2. Follow a larger vehicle through its wake
  3. Accelerate so momentum carries the car through
  4. Turn around and choose another route
Show answer for card 13

Correct answer: Turn around and choose another route

You cannot reliably judge the depth or force of moving water. Do not drive into the flooded section.

Card 14 · Stuck accelerator

An automatic car keeps accelerating after you lift your foot because the pedal is stuck. What should you do to disconnect engine power from the wheels?

  1. Shift into park while traveling at road speed
  2. Press harder on the accelerator to release it
  3. Turn sharply to reduce speed without braking
  4. Shift into neutral, then brake and steer to a safe stopping place
Show answer for card 14

Correct answer: Shift into neutral, then brake and steer to a safe stopping place

Neutral disconnects the driving force. Keep control, use the brakes to slow, and move to a safe place to stop.

Card 15 · Mental distraction

A driver watches the road and holds the wheel but is absorbed in a stressful conversation. What risk remains?

  1. There is no distraction unless the driver looks away
  2. There is no distraction unless both hands leave the wheel
  3. A conversation automatically increases hazard awareness
  4. Cognitive distraction can reduce attention to driving
Show answer for card 15

Correct answer: Cognitive distraction can reduce attention to driving

Attention can leave the driving task even when the eyes and hands appear properly placed. Mental focus matters as well as physical control.

Card 16 · Default district speed

You are driving through a Florida business district where no different speed limit has been established. In favorable conditions, what is the general maximum speed?

  1. 30 mph
  2. 20 mph
  3. 25 mph
  4. 35 mph
Show answer for card 16

Correct answer: 30 mph

Card 17 · Alcohol-level DUI threshold

For a driver age 21 or older in an ordinary car, which blood-alcohol concentration meets Florida's alcohol-level criterion for DUI without separate proof of impaired normal faculties?

  1. 0.08%
  2. 0.02%
  3. 0.04%
  4. 0.05%
Show answer for card 17

Correct answer: 0.08%

A blood-alcohol level of 0.08 grams per 100 milliliters of blood, commonly expressed as 0.08%, meets this DUI criterion. Impairment can also establish DUI below that level.

Card 18 · Texting law versus handheld zones

An adult makes a voice-only call outside a designated school crossing, school zone or work zone, without reading or manually entering messages. Which statement accurately distinguishes Florida's two device laws?

  1. They do not create a blanket statewide ban on handheld voice calls
  2. They prohibit every handheld voice call on every Florida road
  3. They ban voice calls statewide but allow typed messages outside zones
  4. They permit typed messages whenever no hands-free zone sign is visible
Show answer for card 18

Correct answer: They do not create a blanket statewide ban on handheld voice calls

The statewide texting law and the location-specific handheld rule have different scopes. This is not a recommendation to call while driving: other safety duties still apply, and distraction can cause a crash.

Card 19 · Speed limit sign

On a clear road, you see the pictured white sign. What does its large number state?

White rectangle with black SPEED LIMIT lettering and the number 50.
FHWA MUTCD / Standard Highway Signs — source and adaptations in /signs/LICENSES.md
  1. A posted speed limit of 50 mph
  2. A minimum required speed of 50 mph
  3. An advisory curve speed of 50 mph
  4. A route number, rather than a speed
Show answer for card 19

Correct answer: A posted speed limit of 50 mph

SPEED LIMIT identifies a regulatory limit, not a route number or yellow advisory-speed warning. The number is not a promise that this speed is safe in every condition.

Card 20 · Narrow bridge sign

You see this warning before the next bridge. What is the concern it identifies?

Yellow diamond with black NARROW BRIDGE lettering.
FHWA MUTCD / Standard Highway Signs — source and adaptations in /signs/LICENSES.md
  1. Restricted usable width at the bridge
  2. A bridge that must open for boats
  3. A low overhead structure above the bridge
  4. A bridge on which all traffic travels one way
Show answer for card 20

Correct answer: Restricted usable width at the bridge

NARROW BRIDGE warns about the width available at the structure. The sign does not by itself establish one-way traffic or identify a drawbridge.
